My only concern is that the crowd will be smaller on the Friday evening than it would be on the Sunday afternoon, resulting in fewer £££s for Latics! We'll just have ease off at Anfield, settle for a draw and bring them back to BP! I'm sure my kind bosses will let me have the Friday afternoon off though!

It’s revealing that the nature of Alan’s illness has been publicised with his decision to retire from the club on health grounds. The fact that he has continued to work for the club whilst battling cancer is to his credit, and clearly demonstrates his utmost commitment to Latics. The club recently appointed an honorary president for business reasons and although we already have one vice president there is no reason why we couldn’t have a second. Alan should be appointed a vice president and life member of the club, with a seat in the directors’ box whenever he wants it. Alan, I hope you win your battle with cancer and have a long and happy retirement. Hopefully, continuing to watch Latics won’t have any other impact on your health!

Anyone remember 26 February 1977? My late father, who was a born and bred Liverpudlian, took me to the 5th round tie at Anfield. I can remember standing at the side, which seemed tightly packed with Latics fans. My Dad cheered his adoptive team, and for a 4 crazy minutes we were level 1 - 1 with the mighty 'pool. Halcyon days.
