  1. Give it a couple of weeks and someone will know someone who's heard that Scholes is going to come out of retirement and play for Latics . . .
  2. Renewed my season ticket today, which I think makes it 20 seasons now! I asked the inevitable question, and the answer was ‘about 1200’. This would suggest that sales are down, and likely to under last year’s figure of around 1800.
  3. The ghost of Manchester North End - where Ian Stott suggested the merger of Oldham, Rochdale and Bury! It cost him his job. No thanks.
  4. By the way, where's the Rumours Sub-Forum gone??
  5. + 1 Seeing Latics clinch promotion on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Ipswich has to be a close second. Halcyon days.
  6. I was there, standing in the roofless Chaddy End on a sunny Saturday afternoon. As the penalty was about to be taken I couldn’t see the goal line so I leaned forward, and fell down to the next step! I never saw the ball hit the back of the net, but I still remember the noise! I didn’t want to leave BP that afternoon, but eventually I floated up Sheepfoot Lane on my way home. Can’t believe it was 20 years ago!
  7. The 2-1 win at sunny Ipswich, which guaranteed us promotion to the top flight.
  8. 15,000 posts Jim McMahon also lives just over the border in Failsworth, and is very close to that area of Hollinwood!
  9. Good luck to the man. Let's hope he succeeeds where other Council Leaders have failed.
  10. A new stadium is clearly an item that is now in Jim McMahon's in-tray, but how close it is to the top is a different matter. It's our job, as well as the club's, to continue the pressure on the council to help deliver what we all want. I think there are council elections in 2012, but not in 2013. Jim McMahon has already had talks, as Leader of the Opposition, with Latics officials about one or two alternatives for the club. We'll see if either of them come to fruition. It was a very bad night for the Lib Dems, who lost 6 out of the 9 seats they were defending. They held on to one of their Saddleworth seats by only 17 votes. I think Labour has the highest number of seats, 34, that it has had this century! Hopefully you are right about the Labour Group. Jim McMahon has already had talks, as Leader of the Opposition, with Latics officials about one or two alternatives for the club. We'll see if either of them come to fruition. McMahon tried to look both ways on the Failsworth plans, but I think it's safe to say that this plan is now 100% dead in the water.
  11. An interesting little story from today’s Observer about the impact on house prices when a new football stadium is built nearby. “The construction of a new football stadium is rarely a source of joy for those living nearby – but it appears they are wrong to think it will cut the value of their homes. In a ground-breaking piece of research, two economists found the construction of a new stadium actually raises local property prices by as much as 15%.” They concentrate on the Emirates and Wembley, but I wonder what some of the luddites and nimbys in Failsworth town would have thought if they could have expected their home values to increase by as much as 15%. 12. If you think about it all Latics did was set up a 'We Are Latics' webpage with a slogan and a countdown clock. The rest of it was fevered speculation from Latics fans! Although I did lower my expectations I was still a tad disappointed, as I was hoping for just a little bit more. If Latics had announced a new kit manufacturer, rather than Carbrini, with a new first choice strip as well, I’d have been a little happier. Nevertheless, I’m sure the club will conclude that this has been a successful marketing campaign. Whether it brings in more money to the club remains to be seen!
