    Creative would be the word, not a Baxter type, but as you say, somebody who will give teams to think about in the middle of the park.

    Made two short appearances in the champions league, one of them for the last few minutes when they beat United 2-1 in the group to knock them out.

    I was convinced he'd start the season in midfield for us, he and Smith had formed a good partnership at the end of last season and LJ talked Mellor up as being a key player this year. We're only 5 games in though, I've got faith LJ will change things if they're not working.

    He's also not scared to run with the ball, as well as being one of our best passers and having a great shot on him.

    You can't just rely on the wingers week in week out, teams will just mark them out of the game, job done. We need somebody in there that could cause a few problems and carry it forward. At the minute I really don't think teams have to worry too much about the middle of the park.

    Definitely agree, we should have some fun in this competition this year. I would like to see things shaken up with the forwards though, maybe Philiskirk coming in with Rooney or MacDonald back in if fit.

    LJ has been a breath of fresh air, I've loved watching us since he took over most of the time, it's the one familiar problem that seems to have carried over in my opinion though.

    We're desperately missing creativity in midfield! The two defencive midfielders has never worked, especially at home.

    He didn't do anything wrong today, in fact he didn't do anything at all until he punched the ball in to the building site.

    Have we got any other option? Mellor is hardly an attacking player and the other three are definitely defencive midfielders. Some were saying Philiskirk is more of a midfielder?

    I agree but I think he offers more than Wes and is willing to pass it forwards. We haven't got a creative midfielder in the team.

    I think Rodgers has looked decent, better than Wes from what I've seen so far. I do think we are back playing with two defencive midfielders again, no creativity in there at all!

    I'm not sure JCH and Rooney up top together is the answer really. I'd like to see Charlie Mac or Philiskirk play alongside Rooney or JCH and drop slightly deeper. MacDonald is better at dropping deeper and linking things up from what I've seen.

    I think that's the key thing he has to learn, it's ok being powerful but in terms of runs and being in the right place he's a long way off. Do serious questions need to be asked of Rooney, or is he just not getting the right service? Didn't look interested to me.

    We never looked like scoring today a side from the Rusnak header. You can say we were the better team, hammered them etc.. But to play a team that bad and not have a proper shot on goal was terrible.

    I think Byrne to Scunthorpe is best for all concerned providing LJ is happy with our options at the back.
