I renewed over the phone and was told that the season ticket book would be sent out in July. When and how do I get my voucher? Or will it be in the book?

I've renewed my adult ticket over the phone to beat the deadline. I will have to go to the club in person with photos to renew the under 12 tickets, there may be others in the same position.

Sorry to see him go and I'm grateful for the highs he provided last season. I can't wish him well at Blackburn though, as that would be of benefit to them, when I would joyfully see them relegated. I think that for anyone, going to Blackburn is a risky decision while the clueless chicken stranglers are in charge.

This is what annoys me. It's not just the offside rule either, pundits and commentators will 'quote' statements from the LOTG which aren't there at all! It's almost as if they've never read up on them at all...

 

 

 

 

Whilst it isn't always the case you can gain an advantage by dragging your marker out of position, that's why it's offside.

You can be offside from your own goal kick and a corner.

The basic principle remains as it ever was (i.e. attacker with less than two defenders between himself and the goal when ball is played is in an offside position) with the only mitigating factor being that the offside will only be given if he gains an advantage from being in that position.

 

It takes a certain degree of judgement from the referee, but so does awarding a free kick for a foul.

 

Now to me that seems as simple and as functional as it can be?

I can think of at least 4 situations when there are fewer than 2 defenders between the attacker and the goal and he is not offside, there are probably more:

• From a throw in.
  
• When the ball is played to him by a defender.
  
• When the ball is played backwards to him.
  
• A defender who has gone behind the goal line still counts as playing him on.

As for taking short corners...Seriously, at our level, if you take a short corner rather than throwing it into the mixer, you want shooting.

I haven't read it yet, but I think think they give statistical evidence that, for example, short corners produce more goals than long ones. As it happens there is a review of the book in The Times today, I can't put a link up because I get it as an app.

According to Peter Beagrie, Paddy Madden's shot for the opening goal was on his middle leg. I love to score with my middle leg.

Although excluding the don't care votes you have 60 in favour out of 82. Which does achieve the 2/3 majority.

I made up the 2/3 majority rule so I have decided it is 2/3 of all votes cast or 3/4 of votes expressing a preference. First 100 votes to count.

10 more votes required for 100 then we will have a nice round percentage to go on.

It has just hit the 100 vote mark with 60 voting for a club drummer, sadly failing to reach the 2/3 majority required.

The quality is great, very few teams can match the quantity of our away support as a percentage of home attendance.

Why? Just curious.

There is nothing wrong with the word itself, it is just that it has been appropriated by the septics to differentiate Association from American football and it irritates me when I hear them say it. Just a personal thing.

No, but I have a natural aversion to anything to do with the word s****r. I will give it a whirl, I have a two week half term holiday to fill. I suppose the film Moneyball shows the power of statistics in sport. Graham Taylor, discovering hoofing the ball into the opponent's penalty area produces results, is the downside.

Ha ha, never miss a trick O4U. It's written by a former pro goalkeeper and an ex baseball player.

Oh boy, statistics. I get excited about a grammar thread, but a maths related one, that is Mikey heaven.

There is a book being published at the end of the month called The Numbers Game: Why Everything You Know About Football is Wrong, it basically analyses decision making in the game from the point of view of statistics. I have my pre-order in with Amazon, football and maths, the long summer days will just fly by.
