  1. I actually don't support Glossop per se although I might venture over on Saturday. Interms of how competitive it is well you will know more about that than me but that wasn't the point I was getting at.

The point I was making is that there is now another man united in the footballing pyramid If you get the top clubs having an Afc offspring in the lower reaches it can potentially marginalise the other clubs already in existence. Before you know it the top clubs have several satellite clubs spread across football. Personally I don't believe that's a good thing.

I wouldn't worry about AFC offspring, Blackpool Mechanics went tangerine changed their name to AFC Blackpool and at best could draw 500 with the unrest at Bloomfield - to be honest I've heard 'I'm going to Fylde' more than AFC on the non-league forums. AFC Blackburn failed, AFC Liverpool struggle...

If you want to list things that are not good for football start at The Premiership, and Sky.

  2. If people are fed up with footballs commercialisation at the top then their are lots of other amateur semi pro clubs already in existence that would welcome those fans in with open arms.

Creating a new club potentially sets a worrying precedent as other disenchanted pl fans create new clubs that compete with the existing none league clubs, before you know it you could have 2,3,4,5 versions of Man U Chelsea Liverpool arsenal Man city feeding into those clubs. How do those semi pro clubs already in existence compete with that, and eventually it infiltrates the football league and clubs like ours become more marginalised.

That won't work, and as a Glossop supporter you'll probably know why. The FCUM model is being looked at by a number of clubs, more recently Torquay United who were very interested in full fan ownership - teams from Germany have also followed suit. I'd be more worried about Fylde, Halifax, Salford, North Ferriby and so on, I could see Fylde being above Oldham sooner than any of them.

How do they compete with that? With what? 16 or so footballers on part-time contracts? Ilkeston in the same division are all on full time contracts - Chorley the same last year. Ashton United, Curzon and Workington have great sides and have played just as well - it is competitive, to be fair it's been a really interesting season with some cracking fixtures.

  3. Football is a slowly dying game regards attendances

I'm not sure about that, I'm frantically trying to scour Sporting Intelligence (other sources look like they are cherry picking statistics - for example Barnsley/Watford attendances in the Prem vs attendances in later seasons etc) however I've run out of time...

Just because a particular club is on a downward turn doesn't mean that's the trend for the whole country.

And the 'lifetime' season ticket nearly did for Bradford - all the information is out there, lessons to be learned - it beggars belief that a system that can return the optimal fans/income hasn't been deployed yet - one that doesn't exploit the fans themselves.

Twenty pounds in, with a pay-what you can afford season ticket (base price £150 - still about £7 a game) is value. Cut the cloth accordingly, turf out the freeloaders, employ the match day services you basically need (not want), and maybe a drop in quality on the pitch (at least have players who will wear the shirt with pride) - find the level and build again. It'll take years to turn around, and that'll put some people off, especially in this instant-results-or-internet-flounce era. But it'll be your club - It's your club, make a difference.

I am locked out of owtb on my kindle fire but have access through the pc and my mobile. Error message above. Please advise

Get the Kindle Fire and put it in a drawer. Go out, and buy an something better.

It's a cache problem. The above call is for the forum skin, clear the device cache and use the mobile site skin instead.

  5. Also, there is an entire generation that has grown up with a 3rd teir local football team in a 3 sided stadium - and that simply is a harder product to sell.......We have to be honest, and it is a harder sell to get your child to come and watch Colchester, Crawley and Fleetwood in a tatty stadium and full of largely annonymous players. Especially with the publicity and draw associated with the top league as well.

Both of my lads (12 and 8) love visiting non-league grounds and watching the football - I've taken them (and they've wanted to go) to the likes of Kendal, Frickley, Marine and beyond.

  6. Of course, you could go Victoria to KK, Circle to Liverpool Street and mainline train to Leyton. Alternatively, Northern to TCR and Central to Leyton has its advocates. Northern to Bank and Central to Leyton also an option. If you change your mind, you could go Northern to London Bridge, Jubilee to Stratford, Central to Leyton. I'm not laying any bets but I bet that last one is quicker than what Leeslover recommends, in a counter-intuitive way.
