  1. It's ok the mods will close ranks shortly and lock the thread , they usually do when they don't agree !!!!

Nonsense! We usually blow all the server money on crack and whores.

The voting system isn't perfect, of course there is going to be voting abuse however I wouldn't use a public forum full of people you don't know as a guide of being socially acceptable, or the quality thereof. Does the little green arrow give you an boost of endorphins? Do the red ones anger you? In that case I'd take a step back from it. Ignorance is bliss.

As a general note; It's an internet forum not oxygen, you can leave it at any time.

  2. What I don't get about Union is that one team will get the ball and kick it 60 yards down the pitch. The other team will then kick it 60 yards back. Then it gets kicked 60 yards back the other way, and then they will leather it out of play. And then the crowd all cheer. Whats all that about?!

It's a territorial game, they kick it away (punt) when they're close to the goal line, as you wouldn't want to run it away...

The player tries to kick the ball as far as possible towards the opponents goal and they usually aim for one of the touch lines. If the ball crosses the touch line before being touched by anyone a lineout is awarded to the opposing team. If the ball is put inside the players 22 metre line by a member of the opposition they can kick the ball out on the full and gain ground. Otherwise ground is only gained if the ball bounces in the field of play before crossing the touch line

  3. There are plenty of tin-pot clubs with a scoreboard

Aye, I particularly like the type of scoreboard which has plate numbers that somebody has to manually change. There's nothing quite like seeing some guy in a high visibility jacket legging it from the main stand to quickly change the score; and then watching the away fans take it off again when he returns to his seat.

  4. Similar time for me. I remember 70p at Edgeley Park to stand on the Railway End sleepers and walk round to the Popular Side for the second half. 80p in the Stretford End or £1 to sit in the Platt Lane End at Maine Road. Bus fare of 10p.

I remember going to a Rochdale game that was postponed, and jumping off the bus back to Gatley at the hospital to get to Boundary Park where a game had kicked off. Loud cheers repeating as we progressed down Sheepfoot Lane. Three of us paying two admissions and squeezing through one click of a turnstile into the paddock. Latics already 3-0 up against Grimsby. Final score 3-0.

..I remember the Stretty End being a quid, buses 12p...:censored:ing hell.

  5. As a kid I went watching everybody. Stockport, Utd, City and anything on the old 400 bus route including Latics.

Only ever had a season ticket for one team though.

Same here from 1980 every week for years - city, United, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, do kids still do this? Probably too expensive - shaky proof that football is not for the masses anymore?

Childhood memories, football for the working class. Right on.

  6.

Yet again on here it is proven unless you are part of the members clique, you invariably get shot down for daring to have an opinion which may differ from yours or that of the majority

:censored:ssakes. If you think you're being shot down, then you clearly haven't been on the internet yet - and don't try any funny stuff or I'll get the secret society on you.

  7. Ferriby and Hednesford are looking for back to back promotions to get into the Conference, their tails are up - so to speak, word has it that Ferriby a buying their way through the leagues - I'm not too sure, good luck to them if it gets them to where they want to be. Stamford are having a nightmare in the NLP and although they've got this far and deserve their shot, I can't see them beating Hednesford (sorry W.Auckland, you aren't going any further). As I've said before, Rushall are a difficult team to break down, very disciplined and the Ahmed Obeng and Adebola partnership has been very effective so far in the NLP.
