  1. Forget Richards - he's going nowhere for the time being.

What we should really be doing is convincing City that Thompson and Kalala are worth investing £1.5M in.

All we need to do is get as many people as possible to send the arabs an e-mail begging them not to strip us of the 'Finest pairing we've ever had at BP', and that we were banking on them bringing us around £10m each.

The new owners won't know any different, and might just throw their small change at us.

  2. I understand the sentiments last night and quite agree with them. If you want to win a game against a team from a higher division (admittedly we are only separated on the league ladder by one place at the mo) you have to start your best 11 availible that means you don't leave your first two choice forwards on the bench, your 'best' centre half at home etc. But for fans to sing 'we want Hughes' when O'Grady is trying his heart out for the team is wrong. It doesn't give him any confidence and basically says that the fans of his new team don't think he's any good (I for one think he's good but not good enough to be in the team at the mo). I've got no problem with fans singing Hughes songs if he's on the bench but they shouldn't sing negative songs about those on the pitch (and singing we want Hughes is in that category).

BTW I understand Shez's decision but I don't like it.

There were one or two booing O'Grady off last night - hardly his fault he never got the ball at his feet or a winger at his side was it?
  3. Fer Christs sake!

Yes, Stam had a bad game (Actually, a stinker for those who cared to watch), but that's no reason to get on his back with pointless comparisons to Gregan.

Gregan has had more than his fair share of bad games, and Stam has looked the classier of the two on quite a few occasions.

Bad games happen - quite a few players were under par against Burnley - but can we not put that down to formation and selection errors by JS, and just hope that we are back on track for Saturday?

We have two different CB's out there - both capable of doing a job, and both capable of having a mare - comparing the two isn't fair on them.

  4. I think we're all aware what Eards is capable of, which makes it all the more frustrating when he has a game like he did last night.

Unfortunately Eards can be very inconsistent, which was a problem Ratboy used to have in his first spell with us. Allott has shown wonderful consistency in the last 12 months, and we can only hope Eards does the same soon - he's got enough experience under his belt now.

What irritates me about him is his inability to put himself in a position to receive a pass from a player under pressure. Last night on numerous occasions he had an opposing player between him and the ball (Find space Eards! - if you position players in simple triangles you'll always have 2 options to release to. A la Arsenal).

He isn't the finished article by a long shout - that's why no serious offers have come in from any of the several clubs that have watched him, but he is capable of reaching a much better standard with the right coaching.

I just worry about how long it's taking him to learn.

  5. Amazing how far that gets you, isn't it? I hate to steal the glory all for myself, but a little bit of a laugh and a joke with the Leeds dibble and stewards and they were all sweetness and light despite us standing more or less the whole time, when they had been buzzing around deciding which of us to throw out first in the run up to half time. There's no credit IMO to be gained from arguing with them when they are just doing the basics of their job, keep them a bit sweet and you give them the leeway to exercise some common sense. I do feel that the atmosphere is upside down at BP, with the suspect, "naughty," home fans being treated like the away ones, and I'm not sure how far our stewards possess common sense to apply, but it's as sure as night following day that they will react to certain things in a certain way.

    Exactly!

After Zorrro's [*cough] polite exchange of words [/*cough] with Wayne Andrews, a friendly steward tipped me off that our small group were being closely monitored for the next few games. Sure enough, another steward was posted within 10 feet of our seats.

Every time I passed him I let on, and said things like " A mars bar says we win by two goals" to him. Within two games everything was back to normal and mild use of language was ignored - there has been no steward there since.

"I like my football filled with passion, singing, shouting and a certain amount of swearing, gooding (?) of the away fans and standing when the game allows....but it seems that the club and alot of are fans arent happy with this...

Someone above asked us/me to take a look at ourselfs... Well I have and my behaviour is fine under the ground regulations yet I am getting alot of agro from stewards...."

I think you'll find neither swearing, standing or even incitement of opposing fans are fine under the ground regulations, but are often ignored by stewards as long as the person responsible isn't making a nuisance of themselves persistently. Sensible behaviour will promote sensible stewarding.

Just be witty and careful with the goading, and sporadic with the standing and swearing - most of them are fans wanting to see the game free.

  6. First was for them where their lad looked to be tripped in the box. Second was when a cross was pumped into the box and Lewi clearly looked impeded when he went for it.

I suppose these things are fairly forgettable after a 4-0 win, eh?

Taylor's dive for a pen in the 2nd half could have earned him a booking too.

  7. Never had a problem with the stewarding in the main stand paddock.

Main stand paddock stewards are great - Latics have reserved the best stewards for the best supporters (Makes sense really) :naughty:

Try letting on to them with a smile as you walk past - That'll gain you 50% more mischief credits before you get the tap on the shoulder.

    Or just behave

  8. Albert does however hold the record for the quickest hanging of seven seconds :hanged: he must have been in a hurry that day

Yeah! Latics were at home to the Trannies and he wanted to get there for a glimpse of his most likely next jobs!

  9. Me and Osama Bin Laden:

Feck Me Raz! That's some suntan Luce has managed to get herself....

Or would that be another one of those daft women who keep invading your space when you're out for a quiet meal?

    How are you both anyway?

Watch those OASIS lot - They're worse than the Moonies!! They'll slip you a pill and have you under their spell forever sharing petrol costs

  10. My memory of it is a bit hazy (obviously) I do remember the inscibed stone your talking about really well and for some reason thought it was in that block still remaining with The Spinners and the old Coop.

I used to deliver newspapers to all the shops and premises in that stretch of Manchester Road in the mid 70's while working for Hinde's newsagents which was a bit further down on the same side near the top of Hollinwood Avenue (Bower Lane) opposite what is now the Hollinwood Dental Practice (which has been my dentist for about 25 years).

It's hard to imagine all the shops that were there along that stretch back then.

Motorbike shop, Glass shop, two Antique shops, another three pubs (Old Post, Hat & Feather and Kings), Furniture shop, Jeweller, Taxi office, Sewing shop amongst others.

HTPS was just lower than Baxter St.
