    Interesting point as I think the new rules on loans bizarrely make the likes of Gerrards position stronger. A team who has a defender crocked , suspended or just crap can no longer get cheap/free youngster from the premier league on loan therefore the free agents like Gerrard are available but at a premium , and few and far between, and can pitch their demands as they wish to teams who may be desperate.It might be worth him, and his ilk biding his time.

    I would agree with you if you put together clips of his highlights with us and compared them against highlights of their times with us. But he's been here three years and they have had a month.I have spent a long time hoping it would work for Carl here, the left footed cross against Liverpool and the double twist with salco to beat three players and thecracker from outside the box will live long in the memory but he has failed to impress better judges than me. Time to move on I fear.

    So does this reinforce how good/important Ripley and Calrke are? Also that we have to play a defensive midfielder?I know people are talking about wingers and strikers before TDD but I think we need a back up centre half as well for when Clarke gets banned/injured
