  1. I was gobsmacked that some people who went to the game had no idea of VP's history. It just shows how old I am. The comment before making a connection with Hillsborough was very apposite. I would guess that all the people attending today would have heard of that. I went to VP in the November of that season for a cup game, possibly Mansfield? I remember looking at the great gap under the seats filled with rubbish. Obvious looking back, but I suppose that's the point.
  2. Article on BBC website about Colchester http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26869281 Just reinforces the point about everyone at the bottom playing each other. I'd say their run in is slightly harder than ours but the home games against us and Tranmere are key for them but really they need to win them both, unless Brentford are already up and have been on the lash for a week.... Tranmere (h), 5 April Stevenage (a), 12 April Oldham (h), 18 April Crewe (a), 21 April Brentford (h), 26 April Walsall (a), 3 May
  3. As a social worker in the early 90s I used to take a lad I worked with all over to see Both first team and reserves and he loved itEventually he went back home to his mum in Moston and I remember taking him to Maine road when we beat them 2-1. His comment in the euphoria on the way home was 'I'm going to get battered at school on Monday, this is your fault for making me a Latics fan.' All Latics fans will know it was ever thus.
  4. Paid via PayPal on Thursday but not heard anything. Hope you're not spending it in the White Hart.........
  5. http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/article/20140327-glenn-belezika-leaves-latics-1448741.aspx I assume he has something fixed up to move to hence the timing. Maybe local non league.
  6. Having read fans of the mighty Orient calling for their manager to be sacked when they are third in the league and heard west hame booed off tonight having won but not played like the glory days of Moore, peters and hurst is it fair to say the majority of fans are unrealistic in their expectations and get overly giddy at any sign of success/improvement ? I would like to point out I don't include us fair minded latics fans in this
  7. I'd have put a clause in that he must play against us. I like Tarky very much but would bet one of your English pounds that he will either stand on the ball on the edge of the box or bury a shinned effort into his own net. I stand to be ridiculed come Saturday night.
  8. I don't have the ability to do it but if anyone has then please bring up the comments on this site for Lee's first 2 1/4 seasons here. I don't think Brown would compare too badly.
  9. What's our preferred result tonight, a Coventry win?
  10. Don't think the other results could have gone any better either to be honest. Crewe, Carlisle and tranmere at home will be kicking themselves
  11. Tranmere and Crewe both losing at home in games they would think they need to win. Small mercies
  12. 54% of possession and 5shots on targets against 2 according to BBC text. Radio Manchester says were under the cosh.
  13. I think hes has been overrun by the opposition at times when he is central midfield. He seems to need a lot of time on the ball to do anything with it and when closed down quickly I dont think he can shield the ball or lay it off confidently. He has been caught in possession or just shrugged off the ball too often for me. On the right I think he can look uncertain, not quite sure where he should be and is therefore neither an attacking winger or a tucked in extra midfielder. I dont think he's strong enough either. He does show flashes and he tries hard but hes been on the edge of the team for over 3 years and if he was going to make it then I think he would be playing more games by now. I think like some of our other youngsters he's been done a disservice by playing in different positions, being overlooked in favour of loanees and managers who havent got enough faith in him. Maybe a run at right back a couple of seasons back would have helped him. I'd love him to make it, brilliant goal against Swindon, super left footed cross against Liverpool, but I just can't see it. I'd love to be wrong.
  14. I would have loved Winchester to have made it, I was there at Accrington on his debut, unfortunately I think he has done lots wrong in his recent appearances and dont believe there is any chance of him. Mellor or Millar being given extended contracts.
  15. My first game going on my own was that season, Lincoln at home sometime in November, won 4-2 and that was me hooked. The cup game was very soon after and I went with my mate Brian Merritt and his dad, they were Dale fans, my dad didnt have a car.I do remember thinking of them as the bigger team and it was no surprise when we lost, 2-0 if i'm right. After that we went up and they went down and bumped along the bottom. They are a shining example of a football League team managing to survive against the odds. We are a supreme example of the adage that every dog has its day and one day, maybe, everything will go right.
  16. Not sure if you are suggesting we should sing that, but if you are then add 'who put the ball in the scousers net' on Tuesday and LJ will be loving you.
  17. Dont think Rachubka commanded his box today. Crawley should have equalised with that point blank free header from a cross that he allowed to sail all the way from the right wing to the back post in the 6 yard box. Not really knocking him too much but think Oxley gets a bit too much grief for 'not coming off his line'
  18. I know my eyes are not good but if there were 4/500 Latics fans in the RRE then they are a lot worse that I thought they were.
  19. and they took their left winger off at half time. Credit where it is due
