  1. i dont think you could pick out a best player today, we had a job done on us and everything we tried to do was defended well by mk. im not saying croft had a bad game, infact i agree with the assessment that he is a big player for us and was deservedly man of the match against sheff. but croft never took the ball down the wing and beat a man like the sheff game, he lacked service and had to go looking for it. as for being over run, we rarely played the ball forward and lacked any penetration. we didnt feed the wide men and too many balls went backwards or sidewards. on more than one occasion we had a long period of possession without actually getting anywhere, only to have a pass intercepted and mk counter attack. possibly over run is the wrong terminology, but we lacked the ability to feed balls to our attacking areas from midfield
  2. if theres blood all over the place its clearly a free kick? does that mean its clearly a penalty with tarky at the end? double standards me thinks!
  3. personally i would say your assessment is a little biased. croft and montano wernt in the game and croft came looking for it inside far too often as he was having no joy. not one decent ball in the box all afternoon. simpson should have walked on 70 mins for a punch. he also skewed one wide when a shot on target was easier. also at fault for the goal. i like him, but today was a bad day at the office for him, even by his own admission mchangama -although he did well with the ball, he doesnt do enough without it for me and its midfield where we got over run today. if we havent got wes back, id drop simpson back to the attacking midfield role and stick taylor in there.
  4. pompey have already gone imo. doubt they will complete the season, and there is a chance they wont even start it. bury walsall and leyton orient are my other tips. going up, i think mk are certs, bought well and look strong beyond the first 11. il go for sheff utd to go up with them with swindon in the play offs
  5. and 20 years later, boundary park looks virtually the same. depressing
  6. the chron commented that we are looking at a left winger, cant remember if it was a quote or not tho, or they were just speculating
  7. Just out of curiosity, is there any current league club that have completely gutted and renovated a stand, instead of demolishing and building new? i dont just mean a lick of paint, or a new roof, i mean completely gutting? cant think of any offhand
  8. In Australia zoo, while watching steve irwins missus' show in the amphitheater. she were a good lookin lass too. the latics lass, not steve irwins missus.
  9. just signed up for this today. there are only 300 places available, at 16 quid a pop. starts and finishes in oldham centre, taking in grainsbar, delph, uppermill lees then back to the centre.
  10. just because it isnt a monster 5000 seater stand doesnt mean we lack ambition. or for that matter does it mean it will be the only redevelopment we see in the next 20 years
  11. Ive read through this thread since latics fan put the photos up on facebook, and looking at it from a different point of view, i like latics way of thinking. What exactly is a main stand and why do you need one? its taken for granted your main stand is your show piece, consists of your highest capacity, houses your sponsors, changing rooms, shop, ticket office etc, but why do they all have to be in the same building? what would be the problem with spreading it around a little? obviously it makes sense to have your ticket office next to the club shop, but why do the changing rooms need to be in the same building as the ticket office? why does the function room need to be in a stand which holds the largest of any at bp? i see no reason why we cant have the stand on the plans, and then just incorporate changing facilities into the new main stand at a later date. i dont really think expense comes into it. its probably more expensive to build a supporters bar than a new changing rooms. its all about what makes more money. and in any case, the little office next to the concourse 2 is made up to be a ticket office/ shop in my opinion, and i would stick my mortgage on the three big offices on the ground floor being used by the club as such an outlet
  12. Rather than get one for a local club, or school, is it worth considering a link up with social services, to connect with the children who really have had a :censored: start in life?
  13. £27 grand is nothing in pitch terms. when it was initially laid over ten years ago it cost a cool half a million
  14. before a ball is kicked, what would you consider to be a good season, and where do you realistically think we will end up - in each competition? League - Anything top half is an achievement. Think it will be 12-14th realistically. FA Cup - Any team at our level has to be looking at the third round League cup - Couldnt give a monkeys. It loses us money and injures our players. out first round please JPT - Gotta be looking to win this. should have done last year if your honest. Dickov approaches it in the right way
  15. Presuming we get the striker and centre back we know the club is after (presumably Byrne and Clarke), which squad would you rather go into the season with? discounting Kuqi, and any other signings we made after the start of the season (loans etc). basically, would you rather face MK with the current squad, or with the one that lined up against Sheffield last year. Personally, I think the squad is much weaker than the one we had last year. Obviously this is just opinion based, and the incoming players may go on to be world beaters. Here's my view GK Much the same, greater strength in depth If anything Marginal Improvement LB Grounds is untried, but we have been poor for a long time in this area. can only hope Grounds is a significant improvement Stronger RB Kiaran Lee v an untried, never played a league game and released by club in same league? Lee everytime Significantly weaker CB Presuming Byrne comes in, or another replacement I dont see Diamond as a significant loss, so again, much the same On Par LM Lost Taylor, with no obvious replacement. can only presume Mellor will take the reigns. I'd be more comfortable with a proven winger at this point Weaker RM Croft has much to prove imo, and cant really say better or worse than Morais. I'll say much the same On Par CM We didnt have Wes last year, so it has to be an improvement imo Stronger ST Last years bunch were shocking, this years just seem unproven. can only hope we get another kuqi from somewhere On Par (not very good) General squad depth Vastly Weaker This for me is where we are severely lacking. we seem to have no recognized competition anywhere across the board except maybe between the sticks, and possibly upfront(depending on the signing of the additional striker). nowhere else do we seem to have strength in depth. At the end of last season we released 10 players(who were here at the start of last season, excluding KMB and Kuqi), of which I would have considered 6 to be serious first team contenders. We have replaced them with just 4(again just first team contenders), and thats including Brown and Taylor, who I personally think shouldn't be thrown in as first teamers straight away. Apart from Fringe and youth team players we have no competition at left wing, right wing, right back and central midfield. I forsee the team being pumped with loanees again, and maybe a couple of mid season perminent signings. Dickov has got to do wonders in the loan signing this year for me, because i cant see us getting the calibre of wes simpson and kuqi again midseason.
  16. Very much doubt Tesco would be interested in opening an express. I work for them and although there is major expansion in the express format at the minute, and there also isnt one in royton, most express sites are situated where passing trade is in abundance, or in high street locations. the boundary park site offers neither of these. when it talks about a small/mini supermarket, i would expect it to be more like a lidl/aldi or the new format asda stores from when they bought out netto. express is too small for that location.
  17. personally think we should be looking at a much grander main stand, in the 5-6 thousand capacity, possibly in the mold of hudds main stand. the others can be small capacity stands for me, but the main stand has to be just that. a main stand. hudds main stand has everything, and is used to quite a high percentage thrroughout the week.
  18. sod brum. its all about the gate money. would we be really that upset if mossley had dumped us so they could play city? ok its a little unprofessional - if thats whats happened - but who cares. how often is it we ever do business with a club like them anyway? i can only really remember kilkenny, and bruce over the last 20 years. and if they have a hang up about this 5 years down the line its their sour grapes. sod em!
  19. I went to school with nick, that description about him being the best friend type is pretty accurate from my memory. he was never into football, or sport for that matter, and was more likely to forge a sick note for PE than score the winner in the top corner
