  1. They would probably sell well, but could you honestly see us getting Kieran Lee if that tee shirt had been put out? Definatly not the best idea for Links between the two clubs. We actually have a really good relationship with United over the years.
  2. when did barton sign for toon? before or after the incident?
  3. didnt they buy him knowing full wel he had been involved witht his? would look daft to get rid now. they will support him. six months doesnt compare to 3 years. and lee hughes wasnt here when he got sent down. Anyway, who is this barton fella? dont ya mean Prisoner 5689424?
  4. Can you honestly see shez/Tommy/Dux saying "who is this fleming bloke? ah stuff it, ive got a cuppa and a kit kat to attend to. let him sign for someone else" If we wanted him, we would have done our utmost to sign him, if what your saying has a hint of truth about it, it will be that we simply dont want him. On another note, this fleming deal has all the elemants the allott deal did last year. started off as pie in the sky, then gets reported in a few papers, drags on for months and then.... next thing you know Fleming is the Player of the year 08/09

  6. Just to let you know, I have recently been in correspondance with Alan regarding the main points of this thread. He does seem keen to advance attendences, but some of the points raised on here have been looked at in the past by the club, and are deemed unworkable. Players into schools getting players to visit schools, holding question and answer sessions etc. A very good idea, one Alan would be keen to use due to the very low overhead cost, but the new physio is introducing a new training regime, getting players in everyday concentrating on their fitness, so time the players have available in their working day will be very limited next season. Revolution The club are currently running an advertising campaign on the radio station, so if you work in a company that houses a lot of stay aways, get the radio turned to the rev and talk up our club. Friday Night games Personally I have heard a lot of this over the years, how it works for tranny so why not us. according to Alan, the perception the club have is that many season ticket holders do not want this, but he has asked me to run a poll on her gauging peoples opinions on this matter. so Ive added one. Would you like to see friday night games at BP next year? Bus from surrounding areasIt is not financially viable for the club to run coaches from tameside, middleton, shaw, rochdale and saddleworth to BP on a matchday independantly, but the club are currently in talks with First Manchester looking at the future, to get better transport links on a matchday to BP. it is quite possible in the future, you will see little gem type services running under the first bus banner too and from saddleworth etc. this however is by no means guarenteed, and is a fair distance off becoming reality. Billboards at the top of Sheepfoot lane Not viable, due to financial costs involved, and would also require planning permission
  7. when is the final? if its the sunday or monday, i might go down for it
  8. we have a good record against both donny and leeds really, not bothered who goes up. im just glad its a donny leeds final, means we definatly get rid of one of our rivals from next year
  9. well said Rob, never thought about it like that before, but your right
  10. people always say they wouldnt break into the top four, but with the spending power they have they would be able to attract top players. trouble they have at the moment is none of the top players want to play in that league. can you imagine if ronaldo signed for rangers, playing against the likes of danny hall, will haining, porter, murray etc, at grounds like gretna and the like? given four or five years, they would be able to attract top class players there, and break into the top four. i agree at the moment they would struggle to stay up, never mind trouble the big four, but they wouldnt be far off given the time
  11. I reckon manchester asked for this. advertising in scotland they were going to put three giant screens in the city centre and allowing them to drink on the streets from tuesday morning, all ingredients for what happened. Look at it this way, if latics got to the play off finals, and they were at wembley, but we couldnt all get tickets, imagine if big screens go up in oldham for us to watch it. there we are, drinking on the street 48 hours before kick off, enjoying a carnival atmosphere, and literally just before kick off, the screen goes down. by this time we are all very intoxicated, and looking forward to the biggest moment in our clubs recent history. Imagine how frustrated we would be. together with the alcohol consumption, it would only take half a dozen bad eggs to kick off, and the crowd which has dominated the area would revel in a full blown riot. in all honesty, you cant blame rangers. a few mindless numpties maybe, but the true blame rests with Manchester.
  12. a mate of mine is a united fan (a proper one, has a season ticket and has done since around 1990). he was planning to go to wigan but couldnt get a ticket so he is going to the pub instead. was going to come in the box with us tommoro, but would miss the kick off of the united game, and wouldnt get a decent view of the screen, so he is going in the pub from 2 o clock instead. the reason im telling you this, instead of just turning down the ticket for the box flat, he apologised for not coming, but has put £15 quid in the kitty anyway. He openly admits he wants Oldham to do well They arnt all bad, I actually want them to win the title tommoro, Mainly because there is more chance of Scholes coming here next year if they do the double, but also for my mate. Just for the record, he has come along to many a latics game in the past, spending his own money (ie not a freebie)
  13. One thing i always say is that if we are negative about our own football club, how do we expect other fly by night fans to take an active interest. i have know a lot of people who say they look out for latics results every sat, many of these are general football fans, others are genuine supporters of other teams, but because they know i follow latics, they take an active interest in them, and this season alone, i recon i have personally got latics an extra forty tickets sold, that wouldnt have been if I didnt put latics in such a positive spin on things. Dont take this as a dig Spadam, but taking that attitude when talking to people who do not go to latics regularly, what sort of image does that give latics? Latics have a bad image in this town, and its not hard to see why
  14. I personally like the stand in oldham centre idea, with temps giving out fliers. aim at the bored husbands being dragged around the shops, im sure it would be a winner
  15. I too think we have a good chance of success this coming year. with what you could call the best front line in the league, and a very sturdy defence, a respectable centre of the park all we need imo is a left back (Lomax is good but i always prefer left peggers on the left), left winger and taylor on the right. the rest is padding. fully fit, we have a very, very strong looking team. its what is backing it up that usually causes the problems, but the kids, for their age are very experienced. In all honesty i would be happy getting in a mcdonald, a stam, a howarth, a warne or players of that quality to play back up, we dont need world beaters on stupid wages in this summer, as long as we can keep the main bulk of this years team together.
  16. they looked into it but it aint viable. we couldnt pull in 13000 if we gave free entry to everybody
  17. IF we got relegated after losing to Southampton on the final day of the great escape season IF John Sheridan hadnt made THAT challenge giving us the division one title IF Corazzin had scored instead of hitting the bar against qpr in the play off semis at there place IF Hughes had of hit the bar in the FA cup semi IF we lost to reading on the final day of the season, getting relegated to the basement division There are so many important moments in our history that define what OAFC is today. but if they happened a slightly different way, could we be far better or even far worse off than we are now? If we had got relegated in the great escape season, would we have bounced straight back up? or would we have dropped like a stone like we eventually did anyway? I had this conversation some weeks ago in the pub before a game, and people opinions vary wildly. The thread about The guardian artical just brought it back to me.

    Going up

as a tic im not bothered who out of donny and leeds go up, preferably leeds, but either will do me. dont get me wrong i hate both of them, but as big fin explained, the other two are far less likely to cause us problems next year, and are also less likely to nick all our transfer targets.
  19. Ernie epitomises what football in this country SHOULD be about. To give up a well paid regular job in exchange for less money, but the chance to follow your dream of professional football shows true passion. That, and the way you played with your heart on your sleeve has guarenteed your legendary status for many decades to come. good luck Ernie - Phill Higgins
  20. I think they will find it very difficult in our league next year, more so than southampton or sheff weds would have done. good result that. still would have prefered the lashers tho.
