BlueJazzer
Well I can't see us being able to survive in the Championship on crowds of 12000. Last seasons Championship average attendances 1 Derby County 29,440 2 Sheffield United 26,037 3 Norwich City 24,542 4 Wolverhampton Wanderers 24,153 5 Nottingham Forest 22,299 6 Sheffield Wednesday 21,541 7 Ipswich Town 20,960 8 Charlton Athletic 20,894 9 Reading 19,940 10 Birmingham 19,081 11 Cardiff City 18,043 12 Southampton 17,849 13 Coventry City 17,407 14 Bristol City 16,816 15 Burnley 15,891 16 Crystal Palace 15,220 17 Swansea City 15,186 18 Watford 14,858 19 Queens Park Rangers 14,090 20 Preston North End 13,692 21 Barnsley 13,189 22 Doncaster Rovers 11,964 23 Plymouth Argyle 11,533 24 Blackpool 7,842 English League Championship - Unofficial Average Attendance: 18,026 Dudes got a point..... Only 3 clubs averaging under 12000. And thats assuming we can fill it, cos you can guarantee they will keep parts of the stadium closed for safety reasons etc. Norwich couldnt even survive and they had the 3rd highest attendance. Corporal_Jones
Thats not the case its a case of comparing where Cardiff want to be, to where we want to be They have a right to be where we can't ever go though. They're the capital of (gasp) Wales.

Roll out the usual excuses for failure boys.

I can't say anymore, but remember this post when the plans are revealed!!!

gazzaa2
Oldham would average around 10,000 if promoted to the Championship IMO. If the club were riding high in the Championship then it may more or less fill the 12,000 with potential for more in.
Guest sheridans_world
I'm not going to bother saying that the Cardiff population is three times that of Oldham's population with no "big" clubs near enough to challenge their catchment area. But for the third time, nobody has compared Latics to Cardiff City.

Until the Lookers was demolished we still occasionally attracted more than 12000 to BP.
Guest sheridans_world
Until the Lookers was demolished we still occasionally attracted more than 12000 to BP. So we attract 3500 more with the Lookers there twice a season? That makes the club 140k (assuming they are all adults). Corney said it cost upwards of £200k a year to maintain the Lookers. 3500 * £20 = £70k * 2 games = £140k. Simple maths? Financial sense to get rid. Let's make it so we can only fit the 5000 regulars in. Then we can just watch the team get beat without the added worry of losing money. When the crowds drop to 3000, we can ditch some more seats. We might even benefit from the coming recession busting seat scrappage scheme the government is said to be thinking about.

Corporal_Jones
Still not admitted it was the best financial sense to lose the lookers then. The point I made was that we still managed to exceed the proposed capacity of the stadium that's supposed to be in the offing for Failsworth. Which should tell you something. The Lookers doesn't even come into it.
