It's like saying that "my opinion is that 2 + 2 = 53" - ok, it's an opinion, but it's not much of one. So, how will having 5000 (?) fans in a 12k stadium be worse than 5000 fans in a 16k stadium? Perhaps having the 16k will mean greater debt? Someone has to pay for the 4000 extra seats. think its all pretty academic...we have bp capacity down to just over 10k and we cant fill that!!! It will be worse because having (as a stadium with a capacity of only 12000 suggests has happened) resigned itself to a permanent lower division existence, the long-term potential for higher crowds will have been removed. Only the club advancing up the divisions, and sustaining that climb, will bring higher crowds. This has already been proved and not just at this club. Yet more of what we've had to put up with for the last fifteen years will see crowds fall to a lower level than at present, because a certain percentage of fans will not tolerate the club moving away from its heartlands, while others, as we have been seeing for some time, will conclude that the club's position as hopeless and finsd something else to spend their hard-earned money on. The club will be left with those among the hardcore who see the match as mainly a social occasion, with all pressure to succeed removed, with others just drifting in and out when something mildly interesting takes place. Once again it's necessary to repeat that we can't fill it because the football on offer is rubbish and the club going nowhere, as has been the case (false dawns excepted) for a long time. And so, after all the (hollow) promises we come full circle: Oldham Athletic has to be inferior because we simply can't afford to compete with similar clubs in similar towns.
