Macca
So how was the game? Did we play well? Deserving of the win?
futchers briefs
Decent performance - albeit against a side very similar to ourselves, try to be pretty but a bit toothless. Always looked in control really, apart from when we went 2 up and stopped all of the short stuff, sat back and tried to catch them on the break as they went to 3 at the back. 1 more stat more unbelievable than us scoring 2 was how did we have so many players booked? Scandalous bookings from a referee who preffered to write down players names rather than talking to them! Smalley looked a bit more positive today and good to see both strikers on the scoresheet, Whitaker had a decent 1st half and was probably our most dangerous player, faded a tad in the 2nd. Gregan same as - no prisoners and only eve 1 winner of the ball when he challenges, impressed with Jacobson today - in both positions!! started as a centre half, then pushed to left back, when Black was injured. Furman mixed it up a bit when he came on as well. All in all a very important result and a decent performance to boot.

LaticNik
Why's it taken years for Stephens to get a kick? Breath of fresh air. E4e STALE

edhunteruk
Yeah - he looks like he could turn into a decent footballer first game of the season today thought the first half was dire in honesty, only shining light was casper deciding to put a shift in,and when realised he could do there defence carried on doing it,had some cracking shots, not always on target but made the keepr think about things thought heff did ok but not given much in first half, some silly passes and players waiting for the ball rather than going to it second half complete turn around....parker actually did ok when he came on,two good well taken goals, smalley has pace to burn but the keeper insisted on holding play up rather than use his pace.. exeter...utter :censored:e,iv seen some pretty bad teams at bp over the years but they were worse than all of them.. all in all decent showing, decent food, decent crowd...best chant of the day "were :censored:...and were beating you".lol

opinions4u
Furman's interception to create the first goal was the crucial moment. Find a way to play him further forwards DP.

Bring Back Ronnie Moore
We played well in the second half, Smalley took his goal well after nice team work. Heff played well but was limited up front without a real target man or much creativity. The defence though....we were let off by poor attacking, they had about 5 hearders from 6 yards out, each with so little power is just trickled in Flahavan's hands. A decent team probably would have took a few of those chances. Overall a more positive performance but we're still missing Pawel and Taylor and the defence looked vulnerable in the air. futchers briefs
Furman's interception to create the first goal was the crucial moment. Find a way to play him further forwards DP. Maybe he'll be able to now, with Stephens/:censored: alongside him. Stephens seems to enjoy sitting and picking the balll up deep to start moves - something we've been lacking. GlossopLatic
stephens did well anyone think he plays a little like gerrard? Stephens looks more of a holding midfielder but its only his first game would be good to see him over a few games so we can get a more true reflexion of what type of player he is and how good he actually is. Still what we saw today was positive overall.

Rocky_Latic
Two poor sides who spent the first half not having a clue on how they'd manage to score. Nice to see we've found a team worse than us. Cracking first goal. Nice to see a few shots at goal for a change, though Whitts took the wrong option to shoot numerous times when a pass would of resulted in a better opportunity. Still showed signs of just why we've been so bad and Exeter had a few good chances. A better team would of at least put one of them away and then it would of been a case of seeing if we could of hung on. Anyway, who cares. We finally scored again and got 3 points. Hopefully there's 3 other teams along with Exeter who will be worse than us this season.
bensonio
Exeter were poor so not getting OTT about the game 'cause other teams would have put a some of their efforts in the net. Happy with the result though, clean sheet AND finally some efforts not only on target, but going in Thought Stepehens played a really solid game, just kept it simple. Him and Furman in the middle looked a good attacking duo. Wish Whitts would grow a pair and go in for challenges, proper soft arse IMO. Jacobson looked decent as well in both positions. :censored: at CB looked assured. Gregan was solid, took no prisoners, was bit worried when he had a clattering, but played on. Was a bit concerned at the lack of movement with our throw ins, and when our corners broke down it went all way back to keeper most times, looks as though we don't have a scooby doo about pressurising opponents. He wasn't clattered, he was feigning injury to avoid being booked, didn't work. We have been crap at throw-ins for as long as I can remember, no movement or attempts to give the thrower alternatives. Frankly Mr Shankly
We have been crap at throw-ins for as long as I can remember, no movement or attempts to give the thrower alternatives. Yeah? Why is that? It should be one of the easiest things in the world to do properly but the amount of times we gift possession from a throw-in is insane. A pretty routine victory, not surprising as it's two lower half teams. There will be others as bad as that, some of which we'll be playing shortly. A must-win and we got it. Few more of those needed yet though.
