Matt
Acer are a good manufacturer, I have had the same lappy for about 4 years now and no probs - yeah okay, I've had the odd OS glitch, nothing anybody of any skill level (unless you're called Rick Attwood) couldn't sort out - but what I'm saying is I've not had to get my screwdriver out on this one. Plus everybody I know who's also had an Acer have been very pleased by their build. Wardlelatic on here bought one in November 09 for around the same price as your budget, really good spec. Have a word with him to get the details.

Actually look nice too which is a bonus.

opinions4u
This link to Top Cashback might come in handy. PC Word, Currys, Dixons and Comet all pay 3% cashback if you order it via a Top Cashback account. I think Dell's direct sales offer a cashback around the 3% mark too and there are numerous smaller firms you could use too (especially if you hate the big names). An easy £10 to £12 that you wouldn't have had otherwise! Use it for all online shopping too. Earned me over £100 over the last 12 months. EDIT: If the links don't work for you here's the web address: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/opinions4u I'm getting a laptop at the end of the month and have no idea what I'm looking for, Just need it for general email/browsing/poker/iplayer/a few tunes etc I have about £350 - £400 absolute max to spend - does anybody know a good model and where it's on offer, any help appreciated Cheers No idea mate! opinions4u
How much do you get for referrals, o4u? A shameless £1 which will be added to the 2010/11 season ticket fund - so all in a good cause . (If you don't want to give me £1 then just go directly to the site and don't use my link above!). The site also pays 3.5% for Trainline bookings and 6.5% for National Express bookings, so handy for those little away trips too! PS. The link isn't working Seems to be at this end. But for those eager to benefit: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/opinions4u Edited January 13, 2010 by opinions4u
Zorrro
Sell it to me, big boy. Why is it better than Quidco?
opinions4u
Sell it to me, big boy. Why is it better than Quidco? Doesn't charge you £5 a year (it's free). Commission invariably matches quidco, and they often do an extra 1%. They also have have an accelerator on cashback the more you use them (an extra 1% to 10% .... so 3% can become 3.3%). The also claim "Highest Cashback Guaranteed" We offer the very best rates of cashback. We constantly scour the internet and chat to our retailers in order to maintain the very best cashback rates available. We are so confident that our rates are second to none that we even offer a Highest Cashback Guarantee. If you find a cashback rate higher elsewhere, then we will match it ☺ I gave up Quidco and moved because it's better. By at least £5 a year. How are you going to do that when you have had all your fingers cut off and shoved up you arse, and are lying bleeding outside the Croham with the words, "Fear Royton," carved into your forehead? How are you going to do that when you have had all your fingers cut off and shoved up you arse, and are lying bleeding outside the Croham with the words, "Fear Royton," carved into your forehead and a Tricolour branded onto either cheek and coloured in with crayons? You just aren't good to yourself are you? Anyway, the Croham is only Paddy on one side, if memory serves it's English to the right as you go in, Irish to the left. Not that I was much fussed of course.
