Matt
** SPOILER ALERT ** I hate the cinema as it is today, so I don't go much these days - or at least I try to get a matinee viewing. Anyhoo I've caught up with the big screen lately and watched some DVD's... Terminator Salvation - Absolutey gash. Hotchpotch of all the other storylines and a dollop of Matrix for good measure. I kid you not, at one point I thought I was actually watching Matrix. Seriously, if you don't believe me well, I don't know what I have to do to convince you. The Hangover - Not nearly as funny as people were making out, it's okay but not rib-busting. The Taking of Pelham 123 - Not bad but not One Two Three or Walter Matthau, Washington is a great actor in his domain - Man on Fire, Training Day - you know what you're going to get. I always look forward to watching Tony Scott/Washington films. Inglorious Basterds - Great stuff, at an obscene running time of around 2 and-a-half hours the film miraculously moved along at a great pace. The shoot out in the tavern was a great highlight, the dialogue of Christoph Waltz's character was superb. District 9 - "Thas fooking prowns!" - quality film this, I swear though the lead character slipped into a scouse accent near the end. One feels for the aliens throughout the film, and particularly for the family of prawns that had the wherewithall to get off this stinking planet. beag_teeets
I'd agree with most of that, only seen Inglorious Bastards and District 9. I enjoyed the cafe scene in IB but felt the rest of the film was pretty poor overall, I like Tarantino but I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped I would. Loved District 9, didn't like the Alien-style gun suit he put on near the end, thought the end was a bit poor, it was as if they got another director in who decided to "sex it up a bit" and throw in a fight scene. Didn't want to see the new Terminator as it would be :censored:e, not a fan of remakes so happy for Taking of.... to pass me by.

I think you were a little harsh on Terminator Salvation, it was far from a classic but I thought it was watchable and there was some decent action sequences in it although it has been widely panned by the critics so it is probably only me who liked it. I watched the hurt locker last night which was excellent and is highly recommended.
Latics_Al
Pretty Much doing the same thing here... Terminator Salvation - I had to watch this in two sittings as boredom struck after about 45mins. The Hangover - Loved this for the most part. If you liked this and have not seen Zack and Miri make a Porno you're missing out. **link is for the US "R" rated trailer, NSFW** The Taking of Pelham 123 - LOVE the original so have kept away from this. I would probably enjoy it as a stand alone movie, but I know I would constantly be comparing it to the original. Inglorious Basterds / District 9 - Have these two ready for the weekend. Also, everyone should watch
Beardy
Up is brilliant! District 9 was fantastic, love the way it was shot like a semi-documentary! IB - "It's a BINGO!!!" brilliant film, i wasnt overly keen, but it worked really well! Law Abiding Citizen is a must see, one of the best films ive seen in years, Gerrard Butler is immense. In the Air, new Clooney flick its OK but not brilliant, there are some great scenes (he plays a corporate man who fires people for a living)

Watched it over Chrimbo and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of the stunts he pulls are wicked. Makes me think twice about answering my phone... dave_ragg1984
Inglorious Basterds is Tarantino back on top form. All 5 chapters are ace. The shootout in the Tavern is particularly brilliant, and I also think the way the tension ramps up in the opening scene is amazing. And Shoshanna is gorgeous. Frankly Mr Shankly
Anybody seen The Road yet? It's got some excellent reviews. No but I'm absolutely dying to see it. I've been wanting to read the book for ages too, but me and books don't mix.

Fermats Room is great, and you can get it for about £4 on Amazon now too. Has anyone seen yet?

Yeah, went to the cinema to watch it. Not a huge Sci-Fi fan myself, buts its pretty decent. Sam Rockwell puts on a fantastic performance. It's pretty much a one man show. rudemedic
Watched Up in the air online and thought it was pretty good with Clooney being particularly good in it- his young protege is quite fit too I'd expect to see more of her considering she is in the new twilight movie. I'm really struggling to remember the last movie I saw at the cinema and I live next door to one.
beag_teeets
Also, everyone should watch First half is brilliant but once they meet the explorer I think it tails off. The bit when he looks through the photo album and notices the bit he hasn't seen before almost, nearly, maybe had a slight moistness in the corner of one eye for the tiniest of split seconds. Frankly Mr Shankly
As does La habitación de Fermat (Fermat's Room), from 2007... That looks fantastic, but mainly because they use Yo La Tengo's music in the trailer.
Frankly Mr Shankly
Watched this today; Nanking! Nanking! City Of Life And Death. Someone's been kind enough to upload it in 14 installments on YouTube in HD. I will warn you, it's a tough watch. It's all about the Siege of Nanking by the Japanese in 1937-38. Very similar to Schindler's List in story, mood and style and very, very harrowing.
