Isn't the "famous Crewe production line" a load of :censored:e now though? All those players were ten years ago and older, they've done bog all in the last few years resulting in their demise. For me Crewe just got a bit lucky with a few good players at the same time.

'A bit lucky' you say, well I wish we had their luck as it's not run out yet!!!..........Ashton's £3m move was only 5 years ago, David Vaughan to Real Sociedad in 2007 and Nicky Maynard's move to Bristol City for 2.25m was only 18 months ago!

That averages transfer receipts to the club of over 1m per year over the last five years.

These are just the main movers there are more besides!!!

he should be coming off OUR production line, not Crewe's

its very worrying that a player would turn us down (if he does) and sign for Crewe

Not really, if we are both offering the same money the reputation of Dario Gradi and Crewe for bringing on young players counts for alot.

Are you suggesting we pay a player more than we deem he's worth?

what im suggesting is if the kid has got talent (which is why we are in for him in the first place) then we do all we can to bring him to this club

if thats means spending more than CREWE ALEXANDRA then so be it

So we should pay a player more than he's worth so we don't lose face.

Cheers for clearing that up.

A stupid reaction...

What if we are both offering the same, however we have told the kid you will be playing in the stiffs and you might get a shot in a year or so, whereas Crewe have said you'll be getting first team football? You just dont know what is on the tablke for him...

Lets not assume he is the answer to all our prayers. Surely if he was that good a lot of clubs may have been interested when he was released by Celtic, rather than going to the illustrious flixton. Paw, Deano, Jigsaw, Poison Dwarf, Brookey and Hopefully Hef.... all in theory ahead of him... I wouldnt be crying if we missed out on another kid that might make it one day... we need someone to put it in the onion bag now....

dont agree

if he is good enough he will get in, he is gonna start off in the stiffs if he is with us or with Crewe

Crewe are not going to throw him straight into the first team are they?

and nobody at BP are going to turn round to him (without him actually pulling a latics shirt on) and say you are not going to be in the first team plans for a year

Not really, the point was irrelevant because all players we go after are deemed to have talent, thats why we try to sign them.

how can my point be irrelevant, when my point was - if the kid has got talent we should be doing all we can to bring him to this club, beating off competition from a league 2 club?

"Doing everything we can" to out bid another club for an unproven non-league player is financial suicide.

Having had a player on trial, the club must offer terms that the club's OWN management decide are appropriate, NOT what Crewe or any other club think is appropriate. If that means he chooses Crewe instead then so be it, they value him more than we do.

we should be doing everything we can to sell the club to him, make him feel he is wanted here and this is the right club for him
