It holds 1,200 fans and is open to the elements. There may be up to 300 seats made available to away supporters in the old, but at least covered, Stagecoach Grandstand. Disabled facilities: Ambulant disabled supporters can take an assistant with them free of charge. Visiting wheelchair users are allocated three spaces away from their own support in the Flybe Stand. For reasons of Health and Safety the club requires that users of both manual and powered wheelchairs be accompanied by a personal assistant. Wheelchair users must contact Exeter in advance on 01392 411243. The Disability Liaison Officer at St James’ Park is Nick Saunders. How to get there: By Road If approaching on the M5 exit at Junction 30, and then follow the signs for Middlemoor. Take the second exit at Middlemoor roundabout, signed Heavitree. Follow signs for City Centre, going through Heavitree for approximately two miles. Past the police station on your right, then at the bottom of the hill turn right at the roundabout into Western Way (signed Pinhoe and Broadclyst). At the next roundabout, take the second Exit into Old Tiverton Road and then second left into Stadium Way. Approaching via the A303 / A30, go past Exeter Airport and under the M5 bridge (J29). Carry straight on at the next set of lights, past the Met Office on your right to the next roundabout. Straight across this roundabout to the next set of lights (T Junction). Turn right at these lights then follow directions for the City Centre and the subsequently the stadium as detailed above. Parking: Parking is not available at the stadium. NOTE: Most of the streets around St James’ Park are reserved for residents and permit holders only, and this is vigorously enforced. Penalty charges range from £50 to £70. The nearest council car park is Belmont Road http://www.exeter.gov.uk/lgnl/index.aspx?articleid=1425 There is also a multi-storey in King William Street with 730 spaces. http://www.exeter.gov.uk/lgnl/index.aspx?articleid=1440 Other car parks within an easy walk are: Triangle http://www.exeter.gov.uk/lgnl/index.aspx?articleid=1450 and Howell Road http://www.exeter.gov.uk/lgnl/index.aspx?articleid=1439 By Train: The nearest mainline station is Exeter St David’s which is about a half-hour walk from the ground (mostly uphill!). However, there is a train station directly adjacent to the ground, aptly named St James’ Park on the Waterloo Line, served by services from the main Exeter St. David’s. This service runs hourly with the journey taking around 13 minutes and costing £0.90p. From this station, the ground is only a couple of minutes away. If you do fancy walking from the mainline station to the ground, exit at the eastern end of the station platform and follow through the town centre. The ground is to the North East of the station. By Bus: The central bus and coach station is located on Paris Street, around 15 minutes on foot from ground. This is also the main departure and arrival point for National Express coaches from around the UK. From the main bus station, services E, F1 and F2 run at 5 minute intervals taking around 3 minutes to make the short journey up to St. James’ Park. Where to drink: Alcohol is not served inside the stadium. Club Bar : Exeter City's Social Club, the Centre Spot or St James’ Centre, is the recommended destination for pre and post match refreshments. This serves a good range of beers, ciders and bottled drinks for reasonable prices and a selection of pasties etc. The bar also has a projector screen for live games and generally welcomes away fans. Local Pubs : Wells Tavern, 31, Well Street, EX4 6QL: Closest pub to the stadium. Small garden. Bowling Green, 29-30, Blackboy Road, Exeter, Devon, EX4 6ST: Standard old style pub about eight minutes walk from the stadium. Has some real ale, a beer garden, juke box, pool table. Bowling Green. Great Western Hotel, St David's Station Approach, EX4 4NU: Two bars on different levels and a restaurant. Only 150 yards from Exeter St David's Station and then about 20 minutes walk to the stadium. There are up to fourteen real ales on at a time. Food is served all day. Disable and child and friendly. Imperial, New North Road, EX4 4AH.: Huge Wetherspoon’s - one of four in the city - close by Exeter St David's Railway Station. Large beer garden and standard Wetherspoon menu served all day. Old Firehouse, 50, New North Road, EX4 4EP: Close by Exeter Central Railway Station and the main Bus Station and about ten minutes walk from St James’ Park. The pub spreads across three floors and food is served lunch times and in the evening. Very reasonably priced as it goes for the student market in term time. There are two house real ales and two changing guest ales, usually from local West Country breweries. Beer garden. Victoria Inn, 36, Victoria Street, EX4 6JQ: Other side of St James’ Park from the city centre, across the railway line, aboutfive minutes from the stadium. Serves real ale and good cheap food. Well used by home fans, but away fans welcome. Where to eat: St James’ Park is fairly central, so there are plenty of places to eat close by and within five to ten minutes walk in the city centre. Inside the stadium food is the usual football ground fare. ian9393 Posted March 3, 2010 Share Posted March 3, 2010 For those who are driving I wouldn't even consider trying to park nearby cos you won't unless you have a residents permit AND there are strict wardens. I strongly recommend the Park and Ride which runs every few minutes get off at the Odeon cinema near the ground. You'll pass the P&R site as you come off the motorway at jct 29. see www.devon.gov.uk/index/transport/parking/park_and_ride.htm (ps my Mrs used to live next to the ground so I know what I'm talking about!)
