Ackey
Much better match report on the Blackpool site: Blackpool Reserves were well beaten at Bloomfield Road this afternoon as they went down 8-2 to an older and more experienced Oldham Athletic side. The Blackpool line up was a young one, which included trialists Alex Kite and Grant Spencer and their inexperience showed in a frantic opening half in which the visitors ran riot, scoring six, taking a 6-1 lead into the half time break. Tom Eaves was the star of the show for the visitors, scoring five goals and setting up one in a clinical performance by the visitors. Oldham took the lead on five minutes when a long ball over the top wasn't dealt with by the Blackpool defence and Eaves squared for Andrew Crompton who had a simple tap in at the far post. Blackpool struck back less than a minute later with a goal almost identical to the Oldham one seconds earlier. Louis Almond found space on the right and squared for Joe McDonald to finish off a well worked move. Trialist Alex Kite had to go off injured shortly after, and was replaced by Adam Mitter. Tom Eaves forced Mark Halstead into action on ten minutes but his effort was palmed away by the Blackpool stopper. Halstead was called into action seconds later when Lewis Allesandra found space in the box, but the keeper was fast off his line and produced a smart save. Oldham protests for a penalty were turned down on the quarter hour mark after they claimed a bouncing ball struck a Blackpool arm. Oldham came close again on 21 when Ryan Brooke found space to shoot on the left but fired just wide. The visitors didn't have to wait long for a second however and they took the lead again on 27 when a right wing cross was converted by Eaves who stooped low to head home. Oldham missed a glorious chance to extend their lead on 32 when Eaves flicked header fell perfectly into Allesandra's path but he fired over the bar. A superb solo effort from Eave's made it 3-1 shortly after. He found the ball on the right wing and proceeded to cut in and smash an effort into the top corner from 25 yards. Seconds later and it was 4-1 when Eaves was presented with an open goal inside the six yard box and he poked home to complete his hat trick. Oldham made it 5 for minutes later when Eaves found space in the box to head home another right wing cross. Blackpool almost hit back immediately but Josh Roberts free kick was tipped wide by Oldham keeper Tamas Floszman. Ryan Brooke got in on the scoring and made it six for Oldham on 42 after Eaves' chip was palmed out by Halstead and he was in the right place to smash the ball into the back of the net. Ben Breakall prevented Jon Worthington making it 7-1 when he cleared the midfielders header off the line seconds before the half time whistle. Oldham won a penalty shortly after the break after Halstead brought down Brooke inside the area. The winger dusted himself off and converted the penalty, sending the Blackpool stopper the wrong way, making it 7-1 to Oldham. The Tangerines gifted Oldham an eighth shortly before the hour when a mis-timed pass from Kurt Bradley was intercepted by Eaves and he slotted home to grab his fifth of the match. The Seasider's pulled one back on 65 when Grant Spencer threaded a through ball into the path Luis Almond who slotted under Oldham keeper Tamas Floszman to make it 8-2. Jon Worthington had a great chance to make it nine on 70 when he found himself unmarked six yards out, but he could only head wide of Halstead's goal. Rene Steer was denied by Mitter minutes before the final whistle when the defender produced a spectacular last ditch challenge as the Oldham man was bearing down on Halstead's goal. Blackpool pressed for a consolation in the dying minutes and Almond came close when he fired just over in stoppage time and Joe Mcdonald was denied shortly when keeper Floszman foiled his close range header. It wasn't to be for the Seasider's though, and the score ended 8-2 to Oldham.

Rene Steer was denied by Mitter minutes before the final whistle when the defender produced a spectacular last ditch challenge as the Oldham man was bearing down on Halstead's goal. He's back from the bad injury then - is he on a 1 or 2 year deal with us? Edited April 14, 2010 by slystallone
Macca
So Eaves scores from 25 yards out, a 6 yard tap poachers goal and a headed goal. Complete forwards performance.

Crusoe
Steer's on a one-year deal. Think it's unlikely he'll be offered an extension given he's hardly played (not his own fault, I know).

Takemeanywhere
The first half display was tremendous. The link-up play between Ryan Brooke and Tom Eaves was a joy to behold and we fully deserved the half-time advantage of 6-1. Eaves' performance was one of poise, pace, power, opportunism and just general hard work. I don't remember when I last said that about one of our players. Kelvin Lomax had a hand in two of the goals and looked assured throughout. Lewis Alessandra is getting stronger with each outing and Rene Steer also had a very good game. All in all, a lovely afternoon in the sunshine. To clarify the goalscorers, it was: Crompton Eaves (5) Brooke (2)

BigfinLatic
Dux Out! No that was v Rochdale Dux in! Exactly. I think it was hilarious that few weeks back there was outrage on here, as pretty much the same team got battered by 'Dale. Its a bunch of bloody kids playing another bunch of bloody kids, these results happen. I wonder if the 'lashers boards are currently crying for the dismissal of thier whole coaching team? RoytonBlueLad
I wonder if the 'lashers boards are currently crying for the dismissal of thier whole coaching team? BigfinLatic
A few were calling for them to stop having a reserve side when I checked Fair enough. Perhaps they could just scrap being in a league and then pick and choose matches at the managers discretion. That normally works.
