Alec1954
Tonight's Chron reports that the Liberals and the Conservatives have formed a pact similar to Central Government. Both Liberals and Labout tied in the recent election and neither had a ruling majority. Given that ther Liberals supported the Failsworth Stadium, does this mean that the Conservatives will support it also? The right generally suports business and free enterprise, the Latics may well find that their attempts to transfer land and create wealth may well get a nudge in the right direction. thelaticsfan
We will have to see their plans and I think they need to set out from the start where they stand on the issue, im sure it has been talked about and we will hear about it very soon, Im sure we will be ok though, do you know where we are up to with the plans? are we still waiting for the charity commision to decide on land swap? Alec1954
are we still waiting for the charity commision to decide on land swap? All Centrral Government activity was in "purdah" till the new Government was formed. I would then expect the new powers that be to outline the new policies before any decisions are made. I wouldn't be suprised if the CC was in line for the chop at the next budget. Back to sqaure one....pehaps devolved decision making locally? oafc0000
Torys just announced changes to the planning system giving the local community even more say over planning applications. Don't know the details yet. This could hurt...

Nothing will ever get built!!!

I think it is more geared up to do with stopping bars from opening up 24 hours a day and drive through strip clubs than stopping privately funded regeneration projects. Also when the tories talk about local communities, they usually include businesses as part of that. All three main political parties in Oldham support the stadium. I'm sure someone will dig out the link to the Chron article saying so.......cos I can't be bothered! garcon
All three main political parties in Oldham say they support the stadium. Just a minor clarification there. While someone's digging for quotes in the Chron I'm sure they'll find a few from Labour leader Jim McMahon in full Failsworth councillor NIMBY vote gathering mode that aren't exactly in full support of the development.
