LaticsPete
Hmmmm. Has he been mentioned anywhere?? There is quite a clamour for us to go with a young, un-tried but keen & hungry type. Initially Gary Speed was a name put forward; but then Butt came along. What about Cooper?? Fit in with the criteria above & is now out of work after ‘Boro got rid of Southgates backroom staff a few weeks ago. I wonder if he has applied; wanting to take his 1st steps into management? Or; as an ex-‘Boro player; would he be tempted to join Mark Crossley in an assistant manager / coach role??? As long as he doesn't bring Seb Hines with him. Trueblueforever
Martin Gray has a Licence. Frank Bunn would also have one with his history. Lee Richardson too.
leeslover
Lee Richardson too. We make jokes from time to time about posters on here actually being the player/his mum etc, but I honestly am starting to think that your first name is Lee.
LaticMark
According to the Rarely Wrong Chron: PAUL DICKOV is the surprise name in the frame to be Athletic’s new boss. The 37-year-old former Manchester City striker, who ended the season at promoted Leeds United, is searching for his first management role and is believed to have been interviewed by the club earlier this week. At least it makes it a little more interesting!

ritchie82
PAUL DICKOV is the surprise name in the frame to be Athletic’s new boss. Can people see him getting it? I was suprised he was interviewed as he really has no coaching experiance even compared to people like Gary Speed. I think the fact that Dickov and Scott Murray have made it to the final 10 shows how laughable the talk of Butt and Speed was. If Jim Gannon wants it please give him the job. ritchie82
So no interview for Butt then is it? To be honest I don't know. I haven't heard who the 6 from yesterday were. Gray must have been on but then who knows. I would like to think he was in for it but if Butt was in for it would you really be looking at Murray and Dickov? There was never an indication he was going for it. When names were banded about I wrote on this forum that someone like speed who had a lot of contacts and coaching experience would be my choice. He was the first name I came up with who fit the bill. People just ran with it.

People just ran with it. Not (fully!) wanting to start a willy waving contest with you; but when did you 1st mention Gary Speed? I don't remember seeing him being mentioned on here before I posted this on: Mar 31 2010, 13:19 PM I personally wouldn't like Gannon; I can't seem to offset his abilities in forming a side and playing decent stuff with the fact that he is a complete c*ck. If Penney is hounded out; I'd like us to plump for an up-and-comer; who doesn't have 'legend' status with us; and isn't associated with the club presently in some sort of guise. My short list is as follows; this obviously doesn't take into account whether they'd actually want to come here / possible compensation needed - just a potential list like!! Eddie Howe - Doing a very creditable job in a far from ideal situation at Bournemouth. Has done wonders with no budget and a transfer embargo; forming a side from old pro's and bringing on the youth lads. He is young and ambitious. He seems to be a hands-on 'tracksuit' manager; who has good relationships with players & fans alike (granted that has come from 11 years association with the club). If we manage to prize him away from the South coast; he has the potential to rise and rise in the game; and he could well take us a club with him. Justin Edinborough - At Rushden & Diamonds and doing well; having served his apprenticeship at Billericay. An on the up manager; still young (for a manager) and still learning; but R&D play attractive football; and he's 'found' (* might be scouts not him I guess) a couple of gems from semi-pro and lower leagues. In a similar style to Howe; one for the future; why not with us? Gary Speed - Number 2 at Sheffield Utd; comes across as knowledgeable and intelligent in his media dealings (in his post match interviews and as a guest on live games). He's well respected within the game and I'd guess has 1 or 2 contacts from both his playing days & his assistant role. He's also a "Name" that would carry some weight and would grant decent media coverage. Derek McInnes - St Johnstone manager & doing well (4-1 Vs Ranger last night no less). Again an on the up manager with potential. As a player he was tough as nails; heart on the sleeve midfield yard-dog - and his side reflects that. We'd get passion and effort in every game. If he also happened to smuggle Danny Grainger & Steven Anderson in his suitcase then that would be lovely too!! That's my suggestions; as I said above - they dont take into account compensation or actual interest in our club; just who'd I like to see.
