Frankly Mr Shankly
I get the feeling Charlton are "cutting cloth accordingly" in the aquisition of Abbott and handing him the no. 9 shirt. Roger Ritchie
What becomes of the broken hearted - an ode to Pawel As I walk this land of broken dreams I have visions of many things Abbott’s performances were just an illusion Filled with laziness and confusion. What becomes of the broken hearted? Don’t be sad because Pav departed. I know we’ve got to find Someone who gets in behind Maybe Ryan Brooke If he wasn’t crooked What about the Irish lad? I’ve heard he isn’t bad

Ernie For England
How could they do this? They should have retired the number 9 shirt forever in honour of Sir Pawel.

bluehobbit
i still dont get this abbot was lazy nonsense people have started spouting. He was a good player while here and while he wasnt prolific for us did a decent job in one of the worst temas we have had for awhile. Nohairdontcare
I'm stunned that Kelly's been given the number 9 shirt to be honest - though best of luck to him... I don't think there's ever been a previous example of a player in mid twenties going from non-league Irish football to first team league football in England... If it works, he'll be a brilliant find that zillions of other clubs - including lots of Irish ones - missed.

Kevin Doyle went from Cork to reading for 78k and became a premiership standard striker within a year.

Nohairdontcare
Kevin Doyle went from Cork to reading for 78k and became a premiership standard striker within a year. Yeah - but Cork City were in the top-flight Irish league... My point is that I would have expected that a top flight Irish league team would have snapped him up by now if he was any good. Crumlin United are non-league here. It's entirely possible the bigger Irish clubs all missed him, in which case their loss is Latics gain. boundaryblue80
Kevin Doyle went from Cork to reading for 78k and became a premiership standard striker within a year. As they got relegated, it could be argued that he wasn't quite up to "Premiership standard" Being serious though, he did better last season and I don't mind a gamble like this. Not sure about number 9 though...but then, since the squad numbers thing came about, the number 9 shirt doesn't hold the same importance anymore. Not for me anyway.
