garcon
I personally think the failure of Sports Park 2000 had a bigger impact on the club as a whole compared to that Hughes goal If we had still been in a higher division, with decent crowds and momentum behind us, rather than already being a has been club on the slide to oblivion by then, maybe Sports Park 2000 - or something like it - would have come to fruition. Building a fancy new ground doesn't being you success on the pitch. But it can sure as hell help prolong it.

The first was absolutely brilliant best atmosphere I've witnessed at Latics.

garcon
You've got me thinking now. Every single enjoyable game I've been to recently has been away. Last one at home I remember that had me on the edge of my seat in a state of hyped trauma was against Southampton. In 1993.

There was the last day of the season under Ritchie (if memory serves me right) when we stayed up had me pretty worried... But yeah, 1993 would of been the one before that... Three enjoyable games that stick out for me at BP in the last few years: City in the cup, QPR 2-1 with the late Eyre goal after ID had done a runner, and the New Year's Day Massacre. oafc0000
Your point was "13 years of absolute garbage football". Quite a sweeping statement. Not sweeping at all... I have been to the majority of home games in the last 13 years... and probably a quarter of away games...

Just remember shacking Ritchie's hand after the game and rubbing him on his bald head Funny as feck
garcon
First game of the season against Millwall was pretty special. Actually that was quite special. Mainly cos we were in the RRE and were able to see the Millwall fans all pushed up against the fence in an apparent state of apoplexy at the end of the match. It was like being ever so slightly too close to a medical experiment gone wrong. The missing link turned zombie. We just stood and looked at them, totally fascinated.
