I claim to be a fan of the club... I am also a fan of the rugby and other sports but I don't go to them... Can one only be a "fan" if they actually attend the games... I thought that was a supporter personally...

You seem to want to draw a line in the sand and blame everyone who no longer comes for the downfall of the club without taking to issue the reasons why people no longer want to come. Do you honestly think the clubs fortunes and troubles would change over night by adding a couple of thousand to the attendance. History says otherwise. I don't believe for a second the club would be run to live within its means if that happened. I believe history shows the club would just have more room to offer more silly money to silly players.

You either expect "fans" to go no matter what throwing good money after bad (ignoring all the very valid reasons why people do not want to go and the role others play in this) or you don't...

If Latics go pop I will feel guilt that I didn't blindly throw my money at the club. But I will take heart in the fact I did that very thing for many many years after the "glory" years... There comes a point were you just thrown in the towel.

Just ask Blitz...

"Fan"or "supporter" - what I'm talking about is enough people who put money into the Club on a regular basis to avoid it going bust. Call them members paying their subs if you prefer.

Basically we haven't got enough diehards - not 'super fans' - people prepared to support the Club financially within their limited means. People to whom Latics has a place in their heart, and regardless of knowing that the Club will never be really successful in the popular sense of the word, nevertheless they stick with it through all the thin times, regardless of players, managers and owners. People who do it, not for any praise or reward, but because they feel it is their Club. You know, those people who most Oldhamers class as mugs for continuing to follow Latics so wholeheartedly!

Blitz is the wrong person to ask, because I never heard him chant "Oldham 'til I die!".

careful prozac... You will get called to the headmasters office again

I have no desire to attend the ministry of propaganda....it's a free country, and now that Labour have been binned we may even get free speech again. Once Failsworth gets the yay or nay, then i'll be interested in a 'cuppa'....

we need more Super fans !

If that's what those who support the club through thick and thin are to be called, then yeah, you're right. They used to be called diehards...but Super fan works just as good

Interesting to see some posters posting things that myself, OAFCProzac and a tiny handful of others have been posting for months now (ala questions, Brassbank, how for some connected to the club there's more to gain from us going under)...the penny is starting to drop...

Excellent post Diego, agree with every word.

Its all a lot of romantic bull:censored: though isn't Diego... As much as I respect what you say it isn't inline with how the club is run or what the club is in reality... The club isn't some little not for profit members club. It is a business... A cold hard business... Run by people in pursuit of profit... All aiming for the big time and the big bucks...

Players want paying, Managers want paying, the owners want their land deals and the fans want success...

Still job-hunting, bits and bobs of supply here and there but not much else. Got a fair few applications in so fingers crossed - although it is looking likely I will soon be joining the growing band of exiles.

+1

can't say i'm a 'diehard' as i only attend every other home game. however, moving to torquay as soon as i get a job there.

still, Oldham will have a place in my heart.

The simple truth is there aren't enough with that attitude to ensure that there will be. :disappointed:

There never has been... Latics have always been on the brink of going under... We are reliant on owners with money wishing to take a gamble... Even in the Prem with all those extra fans the club was in a :censored:e position...

This romantic idea that it is down to individual fans is a silly romantic fiction. Me and all the other lapsed fans have very little to do with anything. The money boys ensure that.

To attribute being up :censored: creek without a paddle because of who we may or may not get in the FA Cup is like betting the club on '33' black at the casino!

This /\

Whilst i’m very much in the camp that think we should have fielded our strongest available side for the FA Cup game; I cannot take the line that the club officials were basing a chunk of this seasons budget on a successful cup run in one of the cups. Leeds did that under Rissdale; basing their business plan on projected earnings from league positions & cup runs. In football you simply cannot base any projected earning on what may or may not happen in cup competitions; it’s a lottery; and like you say – it’s the spin of Roulette wheel.

We’re in a right mess; we were before Saturday and we still are. Winning on sat to see us through to the next round would have brought in 5-figue fee to the club; but it would have only temporarily delayed the next article from one of the board, again stating that the club is screwed. AH’s one this morning would have been ready & waiting to post on Monday 29th November had we lost in the next round; not this one.

I’ve heard from one or 2 of my ‘contacts’ (loose term i use for them!) that Corney is soon to be off; and admin is almost inevitable. It’s massively worrying; but not altogether surprising considering the farcical situation we find ourselves in ground move wise.

If we make it as far as January; take you pick from any combination of Furman, Stephens, Lee, Black, Taylor.....heck, Bembo, Millar, Winchester, Crompton...... as to who will be sold on. They’re bound to be for below market value; as the club isn’t in a position to haggle in the slightest and the ‘vultures’ will know that.

As much as I’m trying to remain positive; I just can’t help but feel that we’re spluttering along towards the inevitable – and Saturday only accentuated the speed of it; rather than caused it.

When the time comes and y'all form "A.F.C Oldham" just remember I'm a fox in the box striker. Give me the ball and I score goals, it's that simple. I can also perform as a make shift anchoring midfielder.

I would rather watch you play for the badge than any of those overpaid girls playing for money (which we don't have)...

I say we fold and we put Diegos fiction into reality and have a proper "club" instead of this millionaires play thing we like to think is a "club"...

Never mind Sly, come and watch Droylsden again in the FA Cup against Dagenham or Leyton , I seem to remember you enjoyed the banter, social club and football last time you went.

Those who see diehards as 'mugs' may well believe it's romantic bull:censored:. Of course it's about trying to make a profit, but there is little chance of that and absolutely no chance of making big bucks.

Tell that to Blackpool... Unless of course they do what history has shown to happen every time a club gets themselves into a profitable position and why I rightly told you that adding a couple of thousand onto the attendance will make no difference at all...

You know what; I'm going on New Year's Day Mr BP - been to Hartlepool more times than i care to remember; so it's Droylsden Vs Vauxhall Motors for me.

Enjoyed the game; the 'old school' atmosphere and the standard of Football.

If, as many now see it, the lurch into administration & liquidation isn’t too far off – many could do a lot worse than go to watch the Bloods.

This is how I see it

If player sales enable the club to get to the end of this season, then we are in a situation where we can cut the cloth drastically, so the wage bill is proportionate to what we have coming in. Hence, regarding the 'will there still be an Oldham Athletic', the answer will be yes, with a big but.

And what precedes the 'but' could be one of or a combination of the follows

- Playing at league 2 or conference level

- Ground sharing with another club

- Back to the pre moore era of watching a team patched together of journeymen and kids,

- Becoming a semi professional club
