Tommy_Fent
I always imagined Clint Hill was the sort of player you'd hate to play against although he wasn't with us for long but a question to those of the older generation (when Football was a bit more physical), did we ever have a Billy Bremner/Graeme Souness type of player? Lukers1
Jim Steel I always thought Ron Futcher and Micky Quinn were a bit tougher than the rest
BP1960
Allan Lawson, his tackling was like the impact of juggernauht running into a brick wall. Edited November 28, 2010 by BP1960

lancy lad
Darren Macdonagh has to be the toughest I have seen in my time (last 30+ years)................ made Neil Poynton look like a choir boy!

BP1960
George Sievewright, his tackling was akin to facing a combine harvester.
OldhamSheridan
I'd go with Andy Holden, but there's bound to be dirtier players from when the game was about kicking lumps out of each other.
lancy lad
Ian Marshall was pretty tough!
Roger Ritchie
Branston was pretty hard but Alfie Garnett was the hardest man there was.

lancy lad
Andy Holden yeah, good shout. Darren McDonough?? Don't make me laugh Nah, just dont get that. Holden was a great defender but never understood the enforcer title......... reminded me of Jobson. A clean, no nonsense defender! Mcdonagh was a hard bastard! Diego_Sideburns
George Sievewright, his tackling was akin to facing a combine harvester. George is described in the reference book as "a dour, craggy Scot with a tenacious and forceful presence". I always felt Alan Wiliams (father of Gary) was the hard man in the 1962-63 promotion-winning team, when he was ever-present. In four seasons at BP he missed only ten games. He's described in the book as "rugged and fearless" and I wouldn't disagree with that.
BP1960
A few old uns will remember Frank Large, anyone getting in his way would be trampled on by something like a maurading rhino. Edited November 28, 2010 by BP1960

A class act too was Alan Williams, the reference book is rather gentle with it's description of George I think, no winger in their right mind would go anywhere near him. Diego_Sideburns
Am sure Mvoto and Tounkara are tough bruisers (or bulldozers) when going in for a tackle.. 'Wrecking Ball' Tounkara is a gentle giant - he doesn't use his physique enough and is knocked off the ball easily. Yesterday O'Grady, who is not a tough guy, chased back into his own half, robbed Tounkara and set off back upfield with the ball.
BP1960
In boxing terms the best pound for pound Latics hardman could well be Mike Milligan, no matter how big the opponent he didn't often come out second best in his prime.
