Danish fan company takes over Croydon http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...nf/9250548.stm Non-league football A company comprising Danish fans who love English football will take a controlling interest in Croydon Athletic on 1 January. Fodboldsekskabet A/S will work alongside current owner Mazhar Majeed, who will retain 49% of the Ryman League Premier Division side. The company, headed by Palle Rasmussen and Christopher Baadsgaard, is made up of over 400 Danish investors. Rasmussen revealed the company had looked at seven clubs in England. The takeover has been front page news in Denmark and travel excursions to Croydon's ground, the KT Stadium, are already being planned. 606: DEBATE Croydon fans - What do you think to your new Danish owners? There are also plans for the club to bring in Danish Championship players in January. Rasmussen was linked with the takeover of Chester City in February before the club was liquidated. Croydon hit the headlines earlier this year when Majeed was linked to the spot-fixing controversy in the England-Pakistan cricket series. As well as being arrested in connection with the cricket betting scandal, Majeed was also the subject of investigations into alleged fraud and money-laundering involving the club. In September, after HM Revenues and Customs (HMRC) froze Majeed's assets, the club's manager Tim O'Shea and his assistant Neil Smith left. Croydon also postponed two league fixtures and withdrew from the FA Cup. Majeed subsequently paid a £10,000 bond to the Ryman League so that Croydon could fulfil their fixtures for the rest of the season.
