Safe Standing At Failsworth

Recommended Posts

As a private Member's Bill, it's got virtually no chance of passing without Government backing - but a better chance than usual because of the long parliamentary session. Greg Clark is unfortunately not in charge of footy grounds but I think the Tories would be generally amenable. They usually try to talk out Bills that introduce regulations rather than ones that remove them. The first big problem will be getting 100 MPs in to vote on a Friday afternoon.

The Tory boys will back it if you remind them of all the honest working class folk that have been lost in terracing accidents in the past.

How many actually make it to statute?

The only one I can think of is rear seat belts being made compulsory, and that must be 20+ years ago!

(Then again, my interest in politics has dwindled in the last 20 years, so it's possible there have been hundreds in that time!).

Maybe two a year, if that. There was something about sunbeds last year, and maybe one about co-ops too. The big one this time is about daylight saving time. There's no accounting for taste.
