Takemeanywhere
Latics youth team ran out two-one winners in their Football Youth Alliance game at Rochdale (played at Hurst Cross, home of Ashton United). Without the injured Andy Crompton & Carl Winchester and the suspended Matty D Carr, a very young Latics side earned an impressive away win to keep alive their outside chances of league success. The hosts had the better of the first half, without creating too many clear-cut chances and the sides went in level at half-time. In the second half, Latics midfield got tighter to their men and started to take control of the game. David Mellor was immense throughout and Kyle Riley became a real handful for the Dale defence. After a spell of neat passing, Riley managed to stay just onside and cut inside before showing great composure in pulling the ball back across the goal, where Jack Laird was on hand to fire home. Dale levelled through a cracking strike from their number ten but this only spurred on the away side. In an almost carbon copy of the first goal, Riley again broke free down the left before feeding Laird, six yards out. This time, the young Liverpudlian had a little more work to do jinking left before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Laird had a chance to complete his hat-trick but was denied by a splendid save from the Dale 'keeper as Latics claimed the points.

Rocky_Latic
It's no wonder Kyle looked shattered after the game when I saw him then.
