Isn’t that an old landfill site? which may tie in with the info posted on here last week about the developers who specialise in contamination issues coming to town? I know there were a few economical issues a while back when they were thinking about only developing a ‘few’ holes instead of 18 so maybe there’s some of that land available (or has that all been sorted now and the full development going ahead??) oafcprozac
FFS! I actually agreed with Diego for once when he said if we hear anything keep it quiet! This'll be in the Evening News tomorrow night….and a protest group formed by weekend. Why can't we simply sit on info until it's official, Failsworth got out too soon and the Chron picked up on it with doom and gloom headlines! BlueJazzer
Not really nimby central. It would be way down the back, behind the old seddon Atkinson site. Not too close to the houses. And Derker, love it or loathe it (I grew up there) has been ripped apart by the failed redevelopment. Street ion street torn down and left flat with no money to develop it since the government pulled the plug. A new stadium may be what it needs to pick it up again. I have heard this mentioned many times and was told the TTA knocked it back twice. For me this be the perfect location with a bit work on the local roads. Metrolink would go right past it. Not a bit residential area near by either not alot of people effected.

singe
Looking at Stoneligh Park itself, that does not seem possible. But the area around would seem to have a number of possibilities. There'd be nothing new in those areas though. What seems certain, is that Simon Corney has looked at dozens of plots of land. Givent he charity commision, he is looking at previosuly rejected land. Whichever is bet value would be the obvious ones to look at.

Diego_Sideburns
The doom and gloom headlines will come regardless. The NIMBY fight will come regardless. You can't just sneak in a huge development without anyone noticing. That's obvious, but having been told by both 'sides' that no announcement would be made for weeks, it may have proved beneficial if it had not been mentioned until a fully researched statement had been made. By setting out all the pros, and dealing in detail with what the NIMBY brigade will see as the cons, and setting out a full consultation programme, it may, just may, have got off on the right foot. Meanwhile, although no doubt the Park itself would be unaffected, expect a pre-emptive strike in the local press, with a spokesperson for the Friends of Stoneleigh Park whipping up emotional opposition, 'in the public interest'. Of course, I may be underestimating the professionalism of the Council, and it may have already consulted the FOSP and allayed their fears, before talking detail with the Club. In which case, the FOSP, joining with the two 'sides', in welcoming the regeneration of the area, would get the proposal off on in a positive way. Having said all that, the possible use of this site may be a figment of a rumour-monger's imagination, or even a red herring floated by someone in the know, to generate opposition in the local press, while protecting the identity of the real potential site. I find the most recent reliable is .......

oafc0000
no need to give them a head start though is there? jeeeeeeeeezzus Its a flawed suggestion that... It takes around about 5 mins to draw up the usual list of oppositions and they will be given a lot longer than 5 mins to come up with their list by the council. Monty Burns
dont underestimate the hatred of our club by some. there are users on this board who never post, and only joined for this fact. they are in the failsworth opposition groups, even though some dont live in failsworth. these groups are not planning to disband, they are planning to help and indeed form new opposition to any new site. so, there will be contact made on the basis of this thread without a doubt. ESPECIALLY the golf club. anyway, its not going in derker. but thats not the point.
