Wes out for three months

Recommended Posts

Not supposed to be common knowledge, but it has appeared on oafc.co.uk and I had a text from someone in the know this morning, so it is in the public domain,Tbh I expected this, how long could he go on doing a 'Martin Riggs' popping it back in? Sooner or later it would need an op, and perhaps pinning. Massive loss to what we want to achieve. (Survival and Wembley)

Yes, no shock but a right bugger. I think we need to adapt our system slightly, we don't have anyone who can slot in and do the same job and it would be a backward step for us if Furman gets dragged deeper to compensate.

Not the best news if true - but we do have options with Adeyemi or Taylor.

This gives us the choice of playing two up front (Reid (!) and Kuqi) with four across the middle (Simpson, Taylor, Furman, Morais) or

the regulation 4-4-1-1 with Simpson just off Kuqi and Adeyemi in the middle with CT out wide left.

Whilst this is a shame for us and for the lad I am glad that he is having the op, not fair on him to keep asking him to pop his shoulder back in at half time.

Defensive midfielder is my favourite position on the pitch and Wes has shown where so many of those who have recently tried to fill this position have fallen short. He will be a massive loss to us and definitely needs to be replaced during his absence.

In my opinion we have a ready made replacement already at the club, possibly 3, Lee, Winchester and Mellor. If we put Lee there we definitely need to bring in a loanee RB to cover, if we put Winchester or Mellor there they need to be on the traditional raw egg and sherry diet that Bryan Robson swore by when he was told to bulk up.

When did he have this operation- as he seems to have been tweeting on a fairly regular basis since Saturday. You can't tweet if you're unconscious.

You're not a doctor for nothing, eh?!

Don't think anyone said he has had, rather that he will have, the op.

Bugger. Extend Tom A's loan and pair him with Dean. Winchester and Mellor to deputise as necessary.

Kieran Lee is a right back, and a bloody good one. It's frustrating enough having him at LB never mind moving him into midfield.

Any news on Simpson?

According to his twitter he is due to see the specialist tomorrow so how can someone post about him being out for 3 months today is a bit beyond me.

Or maybe Jon Guy has assessed it? He's perhaps already had a scan (if needed) and is going in discussing his options with the Consultant prior to the op?

The same source told me about Furman earlier in the season needing his op, so no reason to disbelieve….and I don't post made up :censored:e.

I didn't say you did I knew on Boxing Day that sometime in the near future Wes was going to be out for 3 months he needed the op then. His dislocation this time sounded less serious- it was popped back in quicker. I don't know what the harm is in risking him now and then until after Monday/Wembley, if the operation was delayed for Anfield why not delay it for Monday/Wembley.

Would make sense, but one tumble and the gameplan is out of the window. AND If Shez has seen 'Escape to Victory' and Pele's shoulder injury, they may target him, just like Pele was when he played on…...

Defensive midfielder is my favourite position on the pitch ...

:mmm: a-maz-ing - hats off to you on that one - my favourite position on the pitch has always been the centre forward - the glory boy who scores the goals. I love to see the net billow as the ball crashes safely and snugly into the netting - gets me every time :mainstand:

If true then we will most likely to be in for a defensive mid, perhaps a loan from prem/champ, or we could revisist earlier interest in Fernandez? No harm in seeing if Madrid are willing to either significantly lower the compo fee demands, or willing to drop them altogether. Don't ask then you don't get.

Strikers are ten a penny, the art comes from a bone juddering crunch in the middle of the park, threading an inch perfect pass into space for one of the show ponies to run onto and put it in the net.

Ten a Penny? Why can't we get one then? Nah the show ponies are worth their weight in gold.

if Adeyemi signs on again til June then cover is there, aside from this i'd have Mellor in there.

He is a CM by trade and more importantly is a big bulky lad with pace who doesn't shirk a tackle, not a bad replacement to have.

Whatever happens we go with what we have/can get - just like having simmo up front, it is a sad sign that having 2 key players out of a team totally de-rails the rest of the team.

Granted mssing 4 or 5 of your key players will affect any team, but we shouldnt rely on Wes as being our only midfield hope just as we should be able to beat teams and score goals without simpson.

Reid on the comeback trail will help us massively as well, gives us more options regards formations

Could play a 4-1-3-2 with furman sitting then taylor, simpson, morais behind reid and kuqi - simmo puts a foot in and is a good dribbler.
