HarryBosch
http://bestofthebets.com/tips-advice/jpt/revenge-athletic-agenda Do we want a run in this again this season? Not sure myself. How much did the extra games contribute to last seasons injuries? How much did the blow of missing out on Wembley affect the players?? jsslatic
No football club should want to go out of a tournament early because they are worried that the players may be upset if they almost get to the final and don't make it. We're in it to win it. Just like we were last year. We burned out last year because the players weren't good enough. Don't be kidding yourselves, had we gone out to Scunthorpe last year we still would have finished as far away from the playoffs as we did. The feel good factor last year in December/early January was brilliant, given the doom and gloom that's accompanied the start of the season anyone wanting to forego that needs their head checking. Twisbrogan
I definitely want the win tomorrow - if only to try and build on Saturday's result and being able to put some of the early results further behind us will also be a positive as we head into the international break due to all our internationals playing in international competitions. Also, last season hurt me. I've not been able to pick up a pot of p*int since & there was the incident in the summer where security in B&Q had to escort me off the premises, having found me weeping in the home decorating aisle naked as the day I was born save for blue and white ribbons in my hair. I just wish we had it in us to not just win ( I don't think they'd be that bothered ) but to take them to the cleaners & knock half a dozen in. Sadly, we haven't, so I'd settle for a win followed by us stealing the trophy from their cabinet.

Gaz_Oafc
I'd love us to go for it and potentially win it but I don't think we have the squad depth. Think Dickov will go for it but just hope it doesn't cost us in the league
Crusoe
I'd like to see us use it as a "reserves plus" competition. Bring in the players who we seriously want to be making the first XI breakthrough, take it seriously, but rest the rest. I don't believe we'll win it and our squad is thin enough I wouldn't want to see the entire first team playing and getting knackered. So, a line-up along the lines of: Bouzanis Brown Mellor Tarkowski Belezika Millar Hughes Winchester Mchangama Smith Taylor Put some experience on the bench — Byrne, Simpson — and some youngsters to try out — Sutherland, etc.
Crusoe
...ideally there'd be an older head in central defence and another in midfield, but we just don't have the strength in depth for that.
UpTheLatics
Full-strength or nearest thing to. We have nearly two weeks off. I'd treat this game as a means to further improve confidence. A victory would be a further boost to everyone.

Think you need 5 or 6 first team regulars starting the game, unless of course massive injury crisis. Personally, go out to win it. The day we go into a game not wanting to win is the day we'll give up completely..

stargazer
Of course we should try and win it but...... last year was our chance to win it ,the competition fell into our lap with lots of big clubs going out on pens. We were left with the poorest club in our division(they did finish bottom) and a southern club from division 2 to beat and the players blew it big time , instead of the fans , players & management having a fantastic day at Wembley ......disappointing isn't the word. the_mighty_bosh
Unless we get to Wembley I'm not bothered about how we do. But if it's a choice between winning and losing then er...I'd want to win.

It was disappointing, yes, but we didn't exactly blow it with poor performances. We out played them, out possessed them and totally outshot them. The big difference was Tommy Bloody Lee. Some of his saves were absolute worldies. He was MOM in both games, so that tells you something. As for the OP, of course we should go all out to win it. No point being in a competition if you don't want to have a right good go.
rudemedic
Rumour has it Diamond was one game away from fulfilling a clause in his contract that would have meant we had to offer him a new one. His freak accident at Chesterfield aside would have meant he played an extra game. Instead Tarky played instead and played well enough to keep his place for a period. Wes did his shoulder in a couple of league games. Furman did his knee in a league game too. Going out the way we did wont have help the psyche of the players. If we do well in the competition it will go a long way to repairing any damage left over from last season. It's a competition we have a chance of winning, 2 better sides have left our side of the draw and the replacements may not have the same quality. No Latics fan has excellent memories of Wembley, that can be changed with this competition. We can see what one or two of our youngsters can do. Its almost a win-win situation, win and we go further get a fraction of revenge, loose and we are out of a competition that would require us to win at least 3 games to break even. al_bro
Basically, what he said /\ With such a small squad, and the cost of staging home games, I hope we go out tomorrow. This is a stupid competition that I would think none of the clubs would enter, if they had the choice.

I believe Tommy Lee was named Man of the Match three times against us in January. That has to be a record. Lags
I want all the younger supporters (aged 20 or below) to visit Wembley and have some success they've never really witnessed following this club. They deserve it as all us oldies can always remember the glory years whenever we are low. So go for it and win it. If clubs were able to use it as a chance to have a look at the the squad I think clubs may be more favourable to it. I can't see that many fans making their attendance decision on the fact that the 4th choice centre back is playing rather than the 2nd choice, in fact I would suggest if it has any influence on the decision knowing that you may see what that youngster is like in a proper game might make more people go? Perhaps? I say the same every year, unnecessary games, that leads to unnecessary bookings, niggles and loss of form, poxy cup that only serves to remind us that we are in a :censored: league as the only qualification criteria is that you have to be in the 2 worst professional leagues. A chance to see your side play at Wembley. A chance to whip-up some excitement for the fans. Winning games breeds confidence. It's so far away from being a stupid competition..... HarryBosch
poxy cup that only serves to remind us that we are in a :censored: league as the only qualification criteria is that you have to be in the 2 worst professional leagues. Richard Keys was talking on Talk Sport about how it hammers home how far Coventry have fallen from grace having to play in this tonight. I'm still of that mindset where we're concerned. That said, I want us to win every game we play in.
