oafcprozac
Somrthing has been going on with Duxbury for a while - he hasn't been at the last 2 home games. He's been ill over the last few months or so and seemingly has taken on a lesser role. Probably explains Butler's increasing input

oafcprozac
Said bring Horton in all season, him or Peter Reid but not Joe. If PD is staying no point undermining him even more by bringing in a living legend
Latics and England
Not sure I can really see where this is going. If Dickov was now going to quit on principle (and if he did it would cost us the same as sacking him in reality) he would have done so at the same time the statement was released. To wait a few days and then quit would make him look weak. The only assumption, therefore is that he has agreed to this with Corney and is relatively happy with the situation. I would agree that the logical thing would be to bring in someone with experience to work along side him but with 3 years managerial experience behind him, is he really about to effectively answer into someone else? longtimeblue
Corney must really like Dickov.. Either he's going to get another chance on the pretense it was all the others' fault or he gets to walk on his own accord with his dignity in tact.. As has been said, he should really walk now... He bought in the backroom staff so you'd have thought he still feels there the best men for the job. Take no pleasure in anyone losing their job but something had to give. I just hope Corney's got someone in mind.

NIKI1234
What ever he does now he is going to look weak! His boss has sacked all his staff which makes him look stupid, if he decides to stay then you have to believe he agrees with the idea in which case he is weak for not doing it in the first place

That all depends if it's Corney bringing in a number 2.......if Dickov wants to stay then he has probably agreed to a replacement......also, Corney would make certain that this new number 2 has an effective role to play. laticsmarra
Dickov can undoubtedly attract good players and is good at PR. the problem that has been identified is that the coaching staff have not been able to get the team performing on the pitch to their perceived capability, hence the changes. We need good coaches and motivators not a father figure to shadow . The other major problem lies in the transition of those that graduate from the youth system into first team. BristolOwl
It's strange that Corney says that the board continues to have faith in Dickov. It seems that he won't sack him outright because it would be another major example of his poor decision-making. A new football director, first team coach (use whichever nomenclature you like) will not make PD a better manager but, hopefully, he and the rest of the new management team will allow Dickov to be frozen out before he destroys the club. I'm surprised that the conceited Dickov has not resigned following Taggart's demise but we can only hope, and doubtless Corney has told PD that he's a dead man walking unless results improve drastically. Harry Dowds Green Shirt
The backroom setup has clearly been wrong for some time and needed re-organising. Making Butler a coach instead of the sports science work that he was specifically brought in to do made no sense and was a waste of money the club doesn't have. It also smacks of jobs for mates and was in no ones best interest except Butler. What good is that to OAFC? The structure Dickov wanted in place when he came was Manager Assistant Sports scientist/fitness coach 1st team coach/Reserve team manager Goalkeeping coach That is a bloated setup imho for a league 1 team with a small budget but he was backed all the way. To then do away with the fitmess side of things and use that member of staff as a coach (or as he has become known clipboard man) makes no sense. deyres42
Have to think Dickov will follow shortly, clearing the decks suggests to me we've got someone else lined up and are just waiting for them to become available. If not and Dickov does stay then Corney has got to dig deep and give him the funds to get in the 3-4 players we need to improve the side - a proper organising, commanding centre back, box to box centre midfielder, winger who can actually beat his full back and centre forward. Midsblue
Dowie as manager, Harbin as fitness/psychologist/sports science and TP as Assistant Manager. Granted our success under them was at a time of a really strong squad but its more than coincidence that some of the more raw players developed stronger, fitter and more productive under this regime. As said earlier, Dickov's position is untenable now and despite SC liking him, it's delaying the inevitable. Lets complete what we started......
