blueatheart
Do people really think that either: A. These managers will take a huge pay cut to come to latics Or B. Corney would be willing to pay them a huge sum? Brown - never dropped below Championship Dowie - Cushdee media work Megson - he can just :censored: off but even so can't see the Oldham story touching his stone cold heart. Scholes - HA! Jewell - doubt it Come on, really. Who wants the strife? We're getting an unknown manager. Or a lower league manager. John Coleman? Doubtful but more realistic. bowl
Phil Brown was Preston's manager in league 1 last season. Why the :censored: would John Coleman be a realistic option?

mikejh45
There are plenty of managers who know that a big salary won't be offered by SC and will still put their name forward. As other posters have said on other threads on here, any one of the 92 clubs are desirable if you are out of work so let's wait to see who pops their head above the parapet

Midsblue
Most of those mentioned are out of work so hardly a pay cut unless they're earning :censored:loads in another capacity. They may be pundits for BBC, ITV or Sky but football is in their blood and they'd quickly admit that most miss being a manager. They've failed in previous roles hence why they're on TV and other clubs aren't banging their doors down. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the applicants already received by SC include some names on people's list regardless of people thinking they're out of reach. It's a chance to put themselves in the shop window; show their ability, achieve success and then the clubs at a higher level come calling again. I've read a few times that clubs in League 2 receive applicants for vacant manager positions from recently retired international players, ex-Prem managers and even players and managers in employment at a higher level. Apart from Dowie, I'd love a player/manager cutting his teeth with a seasoned assistant / director supporting him.

Bristolatic
According to the BBC website, "Chairman Corney added that he had received around 25 applications for the job within two hours of Dickov's departure being made public." I'm not sure any of us could rattle off 25 names off the top of our head. I think that suggests that not all targets, no matter how unlikely we think they may be, are unrealistic.
