Baxter20
Yes he wins a few headers but when he does the ball hardly ever goes to one of ours, he is terrible on the deck and his movement and pace is non existent. I can't see why LJ keeps bringing him on.
yarddogs
Cause were not blessed with striking options?
Baxter20
Keep Barnard on. Play simpson as the target man because he is much better in the air. Baxter or Kirk Millar in around him plenty of better options there.

bluehobbit
Height, Power, Strength, Heading ability. Movement and pace sub standard but in the first 4 hes better than Simspon has scored more goals than Simspon and when we are crying out for someone to hold the ball would be a better option. Simspon has been anything but super this season and while he did OK for 45 mins last night he just isnt a target man As a note last night we saw latics at thier most brain dead - on more than once occasion we launched the ball forward after smith came on only to send it towards Millar - stupid. In the 1st half we had plenty of corners and freekicks but only had Mvoto to aim at - Smith gives you another target Edited April 10, 2013 by bluehobbit
opinions4u
If you're going to play Smith, you need to be good at set pieces and good at getting the ball crossed from the byline. We're not. Smith's got attributes you have to play to. We've failed to do so for 90% of the games he's played. It's not his fault his team mates (and managers) are stupid. Simpson wins 60% of headers of which 30% find a Tics shirt. If you're going to play Smith, you need to be good at set pieces and good at getting the ball crossed from the byline. We're not. Pretty positive Baxters delivery is amongst the best Ive ever seen at BP. As good as Eyresys and Sheridans. Shame the likes of Mvoto and Tarkowski hang at the back post instead of getting involved in where the ball is being dropped.
Baxter20
0-0 wasn't it? We created a lot more and played much better football without smith.

Heading ability definitely not. Simspon did OK first half before tireng - but he didnt create anything and he had one effort on goal all game which he put well wide. as for Smith No heading ability??? sorry disagree. Against Tranmere he won virtually ever header he contested and its not the only team hes done that agaist - we usally dont have anyone near him to pick these up but how often has he had an out an out striker with him~? No power? watch the liverpool hightlights again and watch him bang Skrtel and Coates all over BP. Look at Everton away when he cames on. Hes very effective in the air his biggest problem is his lack of mobility and that he needs crosses into the box to be effective and we dont do that with any quality. But the 40 yard freekick we were launching from deep last night were crying out for Smith to try and get on the end off. Its predictable im not saying it would work but last night we had 0 arial threat in prestons box and smith gives you that at least. OLDHAMADE
Used correctly he has produced the goods be it against Premiership sides but he needs to be supported more, Had me thinking how many he'd of bagged if Holden or Adams were supplying the crosses? Yes he played well in those games but he doesn't bully defenders at league one level, that is our bread and butter.
laticdickovarmy
If you play to Smith strengths he can be almost unplayable as proved in the past (although not that often) sadly we dont so he looks awful In the right championship team and played with consistent starts and a run in the team he may just well get 5-10 goals in a championship season
bluehobbit
See Tranmere away won virtually everything but we didnt have players close enuff to make use of the 2nd ball Simspon has played up front a lot this season and while last night he did OK but on most occasions he hasnt - just look at saturday woeful shouldnt have started last night on that performance of any of 20 simelar ones

4froale
The problem with starting smith is that he is a catalyst for us to just hoof it long every time we get it, I bet tarky had a wank when he saw smith about to come on last night.
