BP1960
The rumour (probably wild) that Latics are interested in the released centre back Matt Taylor of Charlton, led me to checking out his career. I was surprised to read he used to be a goalkeeper in his early days and this got me thinking of how many Latics players from the past and present have successfully converted to a new position. My mind goes back to Ian Wood (centre forward to full back) and Ken Knighton (full back to midfield). Can you recollect any more?

oafcprozac
Remember Big Joe sticking Steve Redmond up front against stoke in a cup tie - predictably it finished 0-0 luckily Beckford was back for the replay..... Simpson, Windass and Beckford going in goal was different...

Crusoe
Doesn't fit the criteria of "successful" moves, but Ritchie played Craig Dudley at right back at least once.

Magic Mikey
Denis Irwin, the best right back we've ever had convincing manure fans he was a left back.
Lookers_Carl
Doug Hodgson had a dabble up front if I remember correctly. Chris Taylor broke through as a right winger under Ronnie Moore, then was switched to left wing by Sheridan? And Paul Edwards was also played at left full back instead of left wing in the latter stages of his Latics career ?
