leeslover
I actually think we could win that division, or at least be in the top two/three consistently. Yes for me. Would you want to consistently finish second or third in a division and still be in it?
jimsleftfoot
Why would we want to go into a league with less chance of promotion? Putting 60 clubs on the same level would make it less interesting and less marketable with some of the bigger teams being split up. No way would this be a good idea. Break The Silence
Worst idea in the history of ideas. There is nothing better than being down south, as far away from your wives/girlfriends as possible, watching Latics... What he said. To the letter. real
The theory that more derby games would increase revenue is flawed. Novelty is a key factor for many, and the repetition of games would quickly become a bore. Also with geographical spread comes the opportunity to attend with / against friends / relatives / colleagues from different part s of the country. Playing Rochdale for two seasons was a novelty and occasionally drawing them in the cup is too... trips to Spotland are more exciting that way - especially when they're abandoned after 8 minutes! Dave_Og
Ah odd in that way. Quite-see my point re my side. Bishops stortford who spent two financially crippling years in that division. Largely down to rushden and kettering imploding
opinions4u
The map of Conference South is even more telling: http://www.myfootygrounds.co.uk/LeagueMap.asp?League=CONFS If football was truly skint at this level, then there may be a case for regionalisation. But when other threads are talking about six figure signing on fees and £3,000+ a week wages for some players at little old Latics it's fairly clear that there is money in the game so saving a few quid on diesel and travelodge costs won't make much difference. Forte_Baby
I got a program on tues night and found a very interesting piece proposing a 3 division regional split for the lower leagues. ie , north ,midlands and south instead of leagues one and two . three teams to be relegated from championship three regional champions promoted. travel costs would be slashed (no overnight accomadation required ) bigger crowds by virtue of the derby factor a good conference club presently needs 4 promotions to get to premier league , a div 2 club needs 3 with regional divisions you can be there in 2 promotions 3 divisions of approx. 20 teams (div1 , div 2 & conference ) northern league would look something like this 1 Accrington 2 Bradford 3 bury 4 Carlisle 5 crewe 6 Fleetwood 7 Grimsby 8 Hartlepool 9 lincoln 10 gateshead 11 macc 12morecombe 13 latics 14 preston 15 Rochdale 16 rotheram 17 Scunthorpe 18 sheff utd 19 trannys 20 Wrexham 21 York you can look at the program yourself for midlands and southern division ( use imagination ) there could be tinkering for clubs like chesterfield in regards to are they north or midlands for example there could be a play off format between the leagues to allow a fourth club to be promoted if 4 came down from championship bigger crowds , less travel costs better away trips ie Tuesday what do you mighty tics fans think ? People say it be cheaper why? 1.Bigger followings mean they can charge more? 2.You would arrive earlier so spend more? 3.Bigger crowds is a myth likes of Hartlepool, Accrington, Morecambe will still only bring a few 100 Crewe never bring more than a 1000 either. Ackey
In an increasingly shrinking world (Internet, speedier travel, etc) it would seem rather short sighted to regionalise now! Teams can save money if they want and not stay over it's not ideal I know but sitting on a luxury bus (as good as business class air travel seats) for three or four hours isn't really that hard on the little darlings is it? the_mighty_bosh
East and West leagues - or in other words, M1 and M6 league systems. While that would suit me for a lot of away trips, Orient away proved just how much of a loss having no London away trips would be.

If its proven that players perform better after a good nights sleep rather than 4 hours on a cramped coach (still can't go for a jog or a walk, despite luxury!) then regardless of 'darlings' - sports science (Paul Butler, eat your heart out), comes first. SholverBlue
It'd get tiring already. Take Tranmere last season for example. No one cares enough to travel to Prenton Park so we took a substandard following. Then the home games, it doesn't appeal much to the Casual Latic who'll come to a few games a season. At least when we get your Crawley's and Charlton's we get a nice little away day etc.

They have three times the number of season ticket holders we do, we take 1500-2000+ every game at the galpharm, they bring between 600-800 to BP.
