Latics_Fanatic
Baxter on the wing ? You've got to try things. Might be a revelation that get's balls across to Rooney and might be able to bag :censored:loads. Might be a pile of :censored:e. Experiment with the team while we're early on. Not for me...........he's nowhere near quick enough.........we need the wingers to get rapidly down to the goal line and try and cross the ball accurately before the penalty box gets busy. Where Baxter is most dangerous is changing the play around in the final third.
Laticacid
He's not the type to work hard for the team out there, he'd be starved of possession, and we d be losing our playmaker from the most dangerous area of the pitch. Plus, in monty, Dayton, sid, and millar we have good options for both wings .
Oh Heck C-Beck
I've recently moved abroad so missed all this season and preseason but very surprised not to see Mellor in midfield at all after the way he finished last season
Aaron Howarth
Like others have said, Baxter behind Rooney with Rodgers coming in to be in CM with Korey Smith. I would of gone with 4-4-2 Baxter and Rooney up top but thinking about it this will be a tough game so 4-4-1-1 might be better, with Baxter dropping into midfield at times IF NEED BE. He should be able to create for Rooney and bring the wingers into it, forcing them to push more forward when we are attacking/on the counter. PatchLatics
Oxley Brown Tarky New CB Grounds Mellor (if fit, Rodgers if not) Smith Dayton Baxter Sidney Rooney No Montano?
oldhamoafc
Not for Saturday. He abandons his defensive duties way too often for my liking and leaves grounds with 2 players coming at him. Not forgetting was partially his fault for goal on Saturday, for the previous mentioned reason!
TheBigDog
Oxley Brown Tarky New CB Grounds Mellor (if fit, Rodgers if not) Smith Dayton Baxter Sidney Rooney My view - time to drop the idea of playing with two wingers and bolster the midfield. Front six of Rooney & McDonald Dayton, Baxter, Smith, Rodgers
mikejh45
This was one of my options earlier and the one I'm leaning more too but with Sid instead of Deayton. I think a front two with Baxter behind and Sid swapping wings all knowing the defensive job is covered with Smith and Rodgers gives us better attacking options. oldhamoafc
My view - time to drop the idea of playing with two wingers and bolster the midfield. Front six of Rooney & McDonald Dayton, Baxter, Smith, Rodgers Time to drop wingers and play 1 winger and Rodgers on the right? Doesn't make sense? If your guna drop wingers you would go with wes, mellor and smith in the middle with 3 strikers?
mikejh45
I think he means he plays Baxter behind Rooney & MacDonald and in front of Smith and Rodgers with Deayton to switch between the wings.
Laticacid
Does Nt make sense , so if he's on the right , it leaves our left back vunerable , and vice versa. You either go with 2 wingers , or a solid 3 in the middle , 433 when we attack , 451 when we lose possession
mikejh45
Don't agree.....not one of Deayton, Montano or Sid can offer anything defensively. And that is why we should be looking at a partner for Smith because Baxter is not suited to a CM role. Playing Smith, Wes and Mellor is way too defensive. DTM
Everybody seems to be missing the crucial fact that Mellor is now a defender, and that you need to stop putting him in fantasy-midfield
the_mighty_bosh
Part of me wants to see LJ show his tactical nous by changing a team/strategy that didn't work in the last 2 games. But the rest of me wants to see the same happy-go-lucky team that played at Stevenage!
