al_bro
Clear profit after 10 years then. It's hardly a major issue but I'm sure the majority of paying punters would prefer it if there was a scoreboard (along with a million other things granted). There's an argument for one on that reason alone. It would probably need replacing before 10 years were up.
100milesaway
I can understand a scoreboard, at a cricket, or rugby game. BUT at a football match!!!!!? . I cant ever remember needing a scoreboard to remind me of the score at Latics.
oafc1955
Surely we could get the scoreboard erected by a sponsor in the same way we have the stands sponsored. The sponsor could have free advertising use on match days and a hospitality package in the new stand. Broadly and the team have done well on the marketing side this season and it's a possibility that could be exploited.

oafc1955
I thought the 11 against Southport was our record score, I didn't realise we'd done it on another occasion.
100milesaway
I was there the day we scored 11 against Southport, but I still didn't need a scoreboard to remind me that my team had scored Eleven.

Southport was 11-0, Chester 11-2 and 10-1 against Lytham is the record win in the F.A. Cup.
Diego_Sideburns
Many of us will remember the half time scoreboard at the RRE when it was uncovered standing. Series of slots alphabetically named corresponded with a list of matches in the programme being played . At HT or just after the scores would go up. Always football except Oldham Rugby also included. Halcyon days... Courtesy of the Stewart W. Beckett book 'Keeping The Dream Alive'.

GlossopLatic
Ignoring running costs, such as electricity, which would not be inconsiderable. It probably wouldn't make any money for the club but it would add to the match day experience for many people showing highlights at half time and of previous games before the game plus interviews aswell. If it replaced the old one, would it make supporters move from the RRE to the parts of BP from where the scoreboard was visible?
LaticsPete
Courtesy of the Stewart W. Beckett book 'Keeping The Dream Alive'. It's noteworthy that the board was so clear even in a photo from the other end of the ground! No need for electronics.

There was no problem with the Chaddy's acoustics either.

That's obviously your next question where would you put it so everyone could see perhaps in the corner of the rre and the new broadway stand ultimately if you want everyone to see it you would probably need 2 with the other being at the opposite corner at the chaddy main stand area
GuyGermanLatic
Ignoring running costs, such as electricity, which would not be inconsiderable. How much are we actually talking though? Surely it can't be that expensive. Bury has the same style scoreboard as the old Latics one and they're not exactly raking much in at the moment other than leaves on the pitch. Fair enough the running costs won't be massive; but you just can't simply say the turnover it generates will go directly to paying the thing off. And not forgetting VAT at 20% on announcements/etc. If you already have it in place and paid for it obviously is worth having, but ours broke..... oafc0000
Everton used to have same scoreboard as us (maybe they still do?) They also had our graphics after their system got wiped and they needed a copy of the software / data :P During the cup runs and prem years the scoreboard was a good earner but it wasn't leading up to its death I believe. LaticsChris
We could really exploit the hipster market by installing an old-style alphabetical scoreboard. They'd lap it up.
