jsslatic
Who was he and was he terrible? Reading Fergie's book and says Buchan was given a 40k signing on fee when he joined Latics but paid it back to the board after he struggled for form as didn't feel he earned it. BoundaryBulldog
He played for United in the late 1970's/early 1980's.
LaticsPete
More importantly he played for Latics 1983 - 5 . Struggled early on but settled in more as a calm and cultured back four player at the end of his brief career here - played just 28 times . Never turned out the quality influence we hoped for. stargazer
Think he captained both United & Scotland(in an era when they were a world class team). A superb centre half . But as I recollect we played him at full back & he was a long , long way past his prime , struggled badly . Didn't enjoy seeing a player of his ability so uncomfortable. Similarly past his prime and injury-affected was England's World Cup winning full-back Ray Wilson.

singe
Did Fergie mention is most successful transfer in his book? Michael Clegg. Would expect nothing less than a whole chapter...
