the_mighty_bosh
Maybe the major signing is Adam Rooney and the club will put on a ceremony to allow him to be a born-again striker. mrs synic
If this signing isn't a quality striker then I think that LJ was wrong to start the hype. The team is being built to launch a successful promotion challenge next year but at the moment the lack of scoring power will get us relegated. Since the late autumn, my only hope for a striker to score a dozen or more league goals this season is JHC but his inexperience, allied to ineptitude by fellow strikers, makes this unlikely now. Otherwise we can only pray for the odd goal from midfield/defence. All we can hope for from Mac is that he gets a goal or two before his next injury. Rooney is a complete waste of money. Philly has a great future with us but not perhaps as a 20-goals a -season man. Many of our goals in the cup competitions this season have come against poor or deliberately-weakened teams. This isn't LJ's fault, or a consequence of inexperience. I think it is bad luck. Rooney's level is the lower Scottish Premier. Mac is a spent force; he is good influence on the younger players even when injured around, but I would at the moment prefer a rude, selfish chavvy player who stays fit and scores goals. As above we can't expect too much from JCL and Philly (who was an a long-term opportunist buy after the season commenced, and LJ clearly didn't expect that Philly would have to bear the high expectations caused by failures elsewhere). We create lots of easy chances for the strikers but they bag a very small percentage. I can't see that changing. Furthermore, the strikers rarely score from a piece of brilliance, or even from clever goal-hanging or as a result of a brave or forward-thinking decision. It's ironic that Rooney's wonder-goal against us last season played a large part in persuading LJ to buy him. I'm not even concerned that the new striker is one who will have a significant role to play over the next two years. He must simply be able to score ten goals and create others, to keep us up this season. but we don,t create loads of easy chances , we don,t create many hard chances, thats the main issue,
Downender
Strikers who bag lots of goals get snapped-up by clubs that have the cash to pay them..unless they have been with a club for a good period of time and their goal-tally has improved each season..then they move on to a club that has the cash..etc. was just about to say, we've been lucky really ....in my memory we've only had 2, 20 league goals a season striker....they are an extremely limited commodity these days... Gaz_Oafc
Andrew Driver training with Johnson SNR at Yeovil. Could it be that we'll sign him if Johnson snr doesn't? Local lad, ex SPL & MLS. Would/could it be classed as a major signing?

Lags
We really need to get behind a manager like LJ who works tirelessly to prepare the whole club to become more successful over a long period of time. Lets get this season out the way (we'll stay up no mither) which as seen a vastly improved product on the pitch, in terms of viewing. Pass comment and opinion on how well LJ as over seen comings and goings to the squad over the close season, then again half way through the 2014/2015 campaign to judge the level of improvement allied with the structure of the club. Then again at that end of season. By that time everyone will have a far better understanding of what the man can achieve.

BristolOwl
Irtainly want LJ to remain for a considerabe time. As I said, forward-wise it is bad luck. Mac is injury prone (at 32 hardly surprising for a strike)r; Rooney has failed. It' s a double whammy because in August they also gave about the only experience we had. LJ has learneed and amended. It's just up front where we need an experienced gun-man. Then we can all savour next season

4froale
im guessing it was mclean with lj previously trying to sign him and mike keegans tweets last night saying a deal was unlikely (shortly after it becoming public knowledge that mclean was signing for Bradford). edit - it wasn't mclean we were after according to mike keegan, shows how much I know Edited January 16, 2014 by 4froale
dec666
Yeovil have decided not to offer Driver anything after a trial. Houston or Oldham, it's a tough one. Edited January 16, 2014 by dec666
lookersstandandy
The Chron has formally listed; Goodwillie; Driver & Gregory as targets. I don't recall - other than rumours on here - that being confirmed. I guess that makes it likely Goodwillie is the individual that spawned this thread? Halifax want a fee for Gregory apparently. I appreciate we can't be throwing money we don't have about, however if we've found a few grand for the lies of Montano and JCH before, surely Gregory wouldn't cost much different. Seems worth a punt to me. Driver's fitness an issue because he's not played for a while and if Yeovil have not pursued it, you'd assume Johnson Jnr knows why from Johnson Snr? PlayItLivo
Sell Rooney to a Scottish club as a few seem keen and use the cash to buy Gregory. He can't be any worse. No one is "buying" Rooney. At best they will offer him the same or better wages so we don't have to pay him off or at least don't have to pay much of his contract up. oafc1955
If we are going to give any of those 3 a permanent deal I don't see how or why we would want to keep Rooney at the club. He is, in all probability, our top earner, if we manage to attract a top striker he would drop further down the pecking order and could even drop out of the squad altogether.....JCH, Philliskirk, and C Mac are all preferred starters at this time. If we are successful in our attempts I'm pretty sure Rooney would be on his way back up to Scotland.
Lags
According to LJ in the Thursdays press conference on LP there are no imminent or close transfer movements.
HarryBosch
If fit yes but he isnt weeks away so I was told. In the unlikely event we could sign him permanently for this season and next I couldn't care less if he's six weeks away. He'd be our second best player.
