Matt
They will advance or die. What would they do in the same league in 5 years time with 300 fans in that stadium? Their fans might have fallen out of love with paying for top flight football but they still seem to respond to winning most weeks Surely that's going to alienate some of the fans after a while if they have to forefeit promotion continuously to live within their means? Maybe not now they are still a young club but after a number of years the fans will start to change their mind and ask questions about the ethos of the whole thing if they don't see progress. Their will surely come a point where they will have to accept higher ticket prices and sponsorship. The club already has sponsorship - It's just not on the shirt. I would assume that there will be a vote on the next phase of the club, the membership will steer the club in the direction it wants to go. The club survey which is circulating at the moment covers most of what you are saying, the club would like to see what motivates the fans. One of questions posed the forfeit promotion question and I'd be very interested to see the results. It strikes me that FC are first and foremost a club - a social club - the amazing amount of work it does off the pitch in the community (not just Moston), Moston Juniors FC, FCuth, the Development Team, FC womens team and for it's members as a whole should not go without mention - the bonds are very strong. So while it would be easy to bracket the whole scenario into 'must advance of die' there are alternatives. The facilities at Moston is not just for FC, local side Moston Juniors will have facilities/pitches too - there will be function rooms and office space for the community - where at the moment FC are paying over-the-odds for Gigg Lane, in the future it won't be, and although the new stadium will be a significant overhead to cover, the benefits from the facilities mentioned above will be made available to the club. Matt
Can I also point out the plight of Eastwood Town. Ex-conference with crowds of 400 and a wage bill of £10k a week, they let "investors" into the club with money and then pulled the plug out. Yesterday all their remaining fixtures were cancelled. FC will not let the crooks in.
leeslover
FC's crowds have fallen in recent years haven't they? This suggests to me that they are a set of cheapskate glory hunting butt munchers who think they have a God given right to see an over resourced team win every week, but they are too tight to pay for the real thing. But I could be wrong and they're actually the Salvation Army in disguise
GlossopLatic
So slowly they are falling into line with other small clubs who also have strong links in the community. You can have good community links and have a level of commercialisation. Edited February 25, 2014 by GlossopLatic

Oh Heck C-Beck
Whatever you think about Man United and FC United it definitely is a good example of how to try and run a football club. even if it doesnt work out eventually. I think a lot of league clubs could do a lot worse than tearing it all up and starting again minus all this debt that keeps accumulating from treading water in the football league. longtimeblue
They are single handedly saving football in this country from oblivionAbsolutely. I'm eternally grateful for them showing me that football is played outside the Premier League. Self righteous and confused... I watched a documentary on YouTube and that manc actor (main chap out of Looking for Eric) was going on about Murdoch's monopoly over TV. He was defending the lady who played Scandinavian matches at 3pm on a Saturday, without really considering the effects that would have on the clubs his club are playing week in week out. All this anti Sky :censored: is bollocks too. Not a political statement for most. Just never went to Old Trafford and saw an opportunity for a day out with fellow reds. brierleys555
A lad I work with is an ST holder at FC united and he says its gigg lane putting fans of. They are sick of playing there and cant wait for their own stadium. However if the glaziers leave OT how many of the fc fans will dwindle back to OT

So shall we not have shirt sponsor shall we slash the prices and theirfore slash our revenue and force ourselves to massively reduce the wage bill so all our better players leave and leave and get relegated. That what you want? It's not what I want. On one hand we shouldn't be too harsh on Fc United they are trying to push certain things forward and making football more community and fan friendly however, I don't agree with their methods it's not like non league community clubs don't already exist. If I turn decide to turn my back on league football their is plenty of non league clubs I can get involved in.
singe
It seems history is repeating itself with FC Utd. They pontificate from on high, and try and give the appearance of a club more woorthy than just a football club. So similar to their parent club. The way they were anti Glazers/Sky at the start, but went crawling back to United when they could sniff a commercial opportunity to raise more revenue from being pro United still galls me. Nearly as horrible as MK Dons, and that is saying something.

Huangjoe
Can understand disenchantment with commercialisation & costs of watching the Premier League. Cannot understand why the response to that is to set up a new club in Greater Manchester when there are existing small clubs at every level of the pyramid crying out for support & enthusiasm. Don't like them.

Don't think you really understood my point or did I miss FC United being a league club in massive of debt that slashed wages and sponsorship followed by relegation to the football league :S All I said was they are an example of a club that seems to be run quite well off the pitch regardless of the background and put forward the notion that in an ideal or hypothetical world a few football league clubs could probably do with a fresh start. I answered your question they have a club that will in its current format not be able to compete at this level they would have to increase ticket prices and have to incorporate more sponsorship. They are well run because they are competing against the dog and duck they have far superior support than the teams at that level so they can get away with this. At some point the ambition for them will be to go higher up and when they do they won't be able to count on far superior support.
yarddog73
who says they cant count on superior support in the lower football leagues if they are successful support will follow you only have to look at latics for that, with the facility catchment area and a community spirit they could easily be drawing in crowds larger than ours in 5 years time. Matt
They are well run because they are competing against the dog and duck With the exception of AFC Fylde (2022) who are on an investors roller coaster ride of thrills and spills (you can have a pop at them as well if you like, do some research first this time), Chorley, Marine, Droylsden, Stafford, Blyth Spartans, Northwich1874, Ilkeston, Darlington, Nantwich and so-on are all excellent clubs with great fans - that statement is wholly disrespectful to non-league clubs at that level and below.
