Football League Tables from 20 yrs ago

Recommended Posts

Of the sides at this level twenty years ago:

4 are now in the top flight

6 are in the second tier

5 are in the third tier

5 are in the fourth tier

4 are in non league

I'm not sure what that shows. Anything is possible?

Plus all 4 of the now top flight sides have been in the bottom tier since then too.

Stockport eh?

Grimsby eh?

3 have gone out of business (2 of whom look very unlikely to get close to coming back).

Chester, Darlington and Scarborough of 1994 don't exist today; Scarboro Athletic, Darlington 1883, and Chester FC replaced them.

That's the spirit lads

Those who inherited wealthy benefactors sorted their stadiums and playing staff, saw multi promotions and the fans crawled back out of the woodwork.

Teams without any sugar daddy and without a pot to piss in, remain rooted to the lower echelons or now in non league and with diminishing fans who are at their wits end.
