Ackey
So then.... how is it that Sunderland get (what I think it's fair to assume) is a mediocre fine for an ineligible player playing in 4 (FOUR!) games whilst if memory serves me at least three lower league teams were kicked out of the FA Cup for incredibly similar incidents?! opinions4u
Sunderland were also fined by the Football League because the player appeared in the Capital One Cup victory over MK Dons in August. They got to the effing final!

Matt
To be fair the 2008 Droylsden/Pace FA Cup campaign was nothing short of farcical. Lucky to be just thrown out. Bloods fans deserve a lot more than NPLD1 next season.

Even a one point deduction would send out a message.
Ackey
It does seem genuine. But from memory so were several of the lower-league kerfuffles too. Wasn't one player signed but he's signed the wrong page of the contract or something ludicrous? I've not managed to find that, so it may be a figment of my imagination. LaticsPete
I think it's interesting how the news leaked out. Apparently Sunderland paid the fine earlier this year but it's now April . If the FA wanted to ensure clubs knew of the requirement to get paperwork of this type spot on then surely it should have given it more profile? Sunderland's Fine http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26878545 Not that I agree entirely with Sunderland's punishment, but given how little he contributed to help Sunderland achieve anything at all a points deduction or harsher punishment might be rubbing salt in the wounds a little. Sunderland lost 4 of the 5 league games in which he played. And in the other game, they drew, with Southampton scoring the equaliser after he came on as a sub. In the one League Cup game he played, Sunderland were 0-1 down at home to MK Dons. The 4 goals they scored to turn the game into a 4-2 win all came after he'd gone off as a sub. For me the only dubious decision is the FA Cup one. He played 63 minutes (no goals, no assists). Would a cup ban for next season be appropriate maybe? OldhamSheridan
'It does not matter if they did it with intention or not, the only decision they can make in this instance - and I would say the same if my team were the guilty party - is to give the three points to the opposition.'-Guy Poyet, 2010. dave_ragg1984
These mistakes are always genuine, but even still the teams get pretty harsh punishments and rightly so. I can't believe they have got away without getting a points deduction for this. However, they should be rewarded for cheating against Franchise FC.
