Crusoe
Options taken on Wilson, Mellor, Kusunga and Winchester. Contracts offered to Brown, Wes and Rachubka. MacDonald, Millar, Gosset and Dunfield released. Grounds set to leave. According to Matt Chambers (as of 8 May) no decision has been made on Rodgers or Simpson. beag_teeets
Was Rodgers out of contract?
oafc-latics
No complaints. Shame about Grounds but better not to waste time on someone who's set on leaving.
Stevie_J
I'm a little surprised the option was taken on Mellor. I'm very surprised it was taken on Kusunga.
pukka
No complaints. Shame about Grounds but better not to waste time on someone who's set on leaving. Agreed. No hard feelings to Grounds either. Saw his contract out. Made it clear early that he would go, but played in a defence who kept plenty of clean sheets near the end of the season. Hopefully the 3 offered deals all sign up. Crusoe
Luke Simpson not mentioned either. Signing permanently for Leicester, I'd guess.
Monty Burns
Bit surprised on Gossett. Is he the injured one?
PhilStarbucksSilkySkills
I suspect Mellor signing again has been heavily influenced by Grounds leaving. Left Back has always been a tricky position to find cover for.
Stevie_J
Luke Simpson not mentioned either. Signing permanently for Leicester, I'd guess. You'd have thought we would offer him a contract though, so as to score some compensation.
NewBlue
Can't argue with much. Looks like we're going for continuity, which, after 10 unbeaten, makes sense. Mellor and Winchester appear to have one last season to impress and the club must have optimism around the Kusunga injury recovery - if we can keep him fit he's more than adequate as both a centre back and a right back. A couple of strikers to come evidently with Mac gone, and a couple of wingers too. Back 4 will see little change it appears. Slightly surprised about Gosset leaving, but we don't see their development like the coaches do. It must've been a choice of 2 between 3 (Mellor, Winchester and Gosset). 4froale
Mellor deal is puzzling
LaticsEddie
Surprised about Gosset! But like someone said, we don't see their development week in week out.
Gaz_Oafc
Hasn't Mellor got family/in laws at the club?
astottie
so we have ten first team players contracted so far. We have been in worst positions than this at this stage in previous seasons. I'd like to add Wes, Rachubka and Brown to that pdq.
ShireBlue
As expected and good decisions IMO. Mellor's obviously no world beater, but there's something there worth working with.
IGL
Mellor well worth another year, held back for the last few months with a knee issue that hopefully has been sorted out. Could be next years Tarky.
MAC0AFC
Hasn't Mellor got family/in laws at the club? no he hasn't... but even if he did why would a manager of a 'company'/football club employ someone who won't benefit his team and would be employed under his budget?? mellor has got ability, many thought this season was his last chane.. clearly next season is! lets wish him luck and not presume he's only got a contract because of a made up story/rumour
SavageTheBeast
Mellor will be another Kirk Millar gone in a year
opinions4u
I think he's got it spot on. Gosset perhaps the only question mark where I don't ave a clue about his potential.
laticdickovarmy
I think he has got it all about right & would expected all those offered deals to be staying Best numbers for a long time of senior/1st team players under contract at this stage
NIKI1234
I presume mellor and winchester are on pretty low wages. Low cost back ups. Better the devil you know than trying to find two other cheap squad players
byrnes boots
Hope Connor brown stays as hes come on a lot over the season
Roger Ritchie
Hasn't Mellor got family/in laws at the club? Isn't his girlfriends dad something to do with the construction company behind the new stand? Doubt that has anything to do with him staying, Johnson likes him and his attitude. Great left peg. Potential is there just needs to come out. Roger Ritchie
Hope Connor brown stays as hes come on a lot over the season Agreed. Right backs are ten a penny but Connor Brown has been one of our stand out players recently.
