youngen
David Villa reportedly signing on a short term deal for Melbourne to get match fitness before moving to New york City FC.
Forte_Baby
If they don't fill the Large section off the Rocky Road End then there clearly far to Tinpot.
perfectOzblue
The Heart have struggled in the A-League since they formed a couple of years ago. They are in the shadow of Melbourne Victory, who are arguably the country's biggest team here. They had Orlando Engelaar, who played for Holland, in their squad last season. They were also managed by the former Pompey player John Aloisi for a few months but he was pretty disastrous. They are being linked with everyone since the link with City was established. The A-League (I think) is on a par with League One so it will be interesting to see how they match up, albeit in a friendly.

Stagger Lee
What terrible team names they have in Australia. Agree - unless it is Sydney FC. The only dignified name I think
Stagger Lee
This should be an interesting match up - I agree with perfectOZblue that the Australian A league is about division 1 level, but Heart are a poor A league team so who can guess the result? Would like Oldham to search for more Australian players.
oafc_lover
Would like Oldham to search for more Australian players. Why?
Stagger Lee
Why? Because I think the quality for price ratio would suit Oldham. Many (most?) younger Australians still see the best way to progress their career is to get signed by some European club, however small the club and the wage, because it would showcase themselves to more scouts from the bigger clubs. Rather that than being sat on the subs bench in the A league while some former 'star' player winds down his career. Blue_Guru
Any reason why we have been picked as a friendly for Melbourne? Abu Dhabi investors who own New York and Melbourne? Snooping around doing something with a North West team hopefully ;-)

Would like Oldham to search for more Australian players. They played some great stuff in the second half of the season. I reckon the standard is higher than League 1 at the top end (though not quite championship standard) and and about League 1 standard at the lower end. Most Aussie teams like to play it on the ground and fizz it around quite a bit with good ball skills. It won't be a walk in the park! PlayItLivo
Exeter City are touring Brazil, to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the formation of the Brazilian National Team, who's first game was against Exeter. That's a pre-season!

bluearmyof1
What terrible team names they have in Australia. Not sure, the Western Sydney Wanderers have a good old fashioned football name. They have however only been in existence for only two seasons I think.

I would class top A league teams as low Championship standard. Perth Glory (finished bottom of the league) and the like are run of the mill league 1 (please note Mr Wesolowski). I expect Melbourne Heart to be better next season, so I expect Heart to be stiff opposition. I can imagine the newspaper quotes of the game, such as "Heart attack"
