Tommy_Fent
I'm curious to how they might do next season. Also don't be surprised to see Scunthorpe splash the cash
dkay570
One thing the Sopranos taught me is to be wary of Italian businessmen who are involved in waste management.
Crusoe
As a poster said on another football forum: ...he appears to have made his money in renewable energy (a sector on which the Italian government has spent billions in subsidies for relatively little return) and in post-Communist Albania (a notoriously dodgy country). He also seems to have some involvement in the waste disposal sector, which is notoriously problematic, including a history of shipping toxic waste to Albania. He owns a private television network in Albania. His company website does not include management biographies at all, and the most recent press clipping in any language is from 2009. He was the CEO of the Rome volleyball team that won a championship in 2000, but fell on hard times almost immediately (relegation, followed by administration), and was reformed in 2006 without him being visibly involved. Tommy_Fent
Scunthorpe were took over just after they were relegated. They signed Paddy Madden, they want to move to a new stadium and they've promised some big name signings
philliggi
Another new stadium? Didnt they only move there in the eighties? Scunny is piss easy to get too and seems like it would be a doddle to expand with quite a bit of land round there. Why would they move? Tommy_Fent
I think it's down to a falling out with ownership of the land
c.hill12
And there's no money making facilities in there. The built it 10 years too soon.
24hoursfromtulsehill
to be fair if you play your cards right, you could make a killing investing in renewable energy ...especially if you have a mind to fleece a not-very-solid Government machine for all the subsidies they hand out for this sort of thing. ShireBlue
They've looked at selling the land for commercial purposes and building a new ground behind the big Tesco near the motorway.
Forte_Baby
Never liked Scunthorpe ground but one thing about them is if they sell a player on tend to often find a decent replacement.

oafc1955
Just seen that they've been bought over by some multi million are Italian guyPut up for sale in May and all done and dusted in less than 2 months, and 5 potential groups were said to be interested. With a lot of competition in the capital and now West Ham on their door step at the Olympic stadium its a surprise the sale has been completed so quickly. It makes you wonder why we haven't managed it in 10 years of trying. Edited July 8, 2014 by oafc1955

Because we've not been looking to sell to any Tom, Dick or Harry who comes along, only somebody who would have the club's best interests at heart. Leyton Orient's new owner might, but he also may not.
rudemedic
Because we've not been looking to sell to any Tom, Dick or Harry who comes along, only somebody who would have the club's best interests at heart. Leyton Orient's new owner might, but he also may not. Or perhaps Orient asked for a fair price and our landlords are asking for significantly more than we are worth. I think the truth probably lies somewhere between the two after all the landlords did turn down that interest from Koukash and Vaughan. opinions4u
Wonder how much that playing area at Brisbane Road would fetch all covered in flats?
c.hill12
I would imagine the new owner is confident of a tenancy at the olympic stadium so they can finish them flats off

It makes you wonder why we haven't managed it in 10 years of trying. There's competition but also 7m people and a decent amount of money which is more likely to be able to support many clubs. I think Orient does have growth potential even with West Ham on their doorstep. London is a seperate country to the rest of the UK in terms of investment and frankly I think that has put us in a lower league to the Leyton Orients and Brentford in terms of attractiveness to outside investors. Interestingly, they were interested in Reading but didn't like the level of debt and Hearn has kept ownership of the land.
