opinions4u
With a bit of defensive composure we'd win games like that. Some promising stuff with the awfulness. Danny Philliskirk played further forwards stood out. Forte was decent. Joe Mills and Liam Kelly are so poor with their passing at times. At least Mills delivered a couple of decent ones second half. Defending and goalkeeping looked terrible for their goal. I don't get the point of JCH. Slow to react to everything. HarryBosch
I thought Kelly was better second half. I think Jones will be a very good player for us. Clarke Harris was better Philliskirk had his best game in a long time in a more advanced role Great save from Rachubka from that free kick second half Much better. Oh, and the seasons first utter bollock of a ref. the first if many no doubt

Probably unlucky not to nick it near the end, although Vale were also unlucky hitting the bar and the great save from Rachubka from the free kick. Much better than Saturday though, although still average.
disjointed
And Johnson blanking the Athletico's no doubt for their "this is embarrassing" song I think the song was about the stewards but I could be wrong, on the subject of which at HT I had a word with Magoo the steward and can confirm he is a tosser. opinions4u
Ah yes. The stewards. Wankers. While the song was aimed at the stewards I don't blame Johnson for being pissed off with it.
beag_teeets
Work in progress still progressing. Could have won that, could have lost it. Second half performance got us back in it when other Latics sides would have let that get away from us. Decent game in the end, some backing from the fans, players gave us something to get behind. deyres42
Someone is going to take a swing at that steward sooner rather than later, seems to be going out of his way to cause aggro. Bit better on the pitch, decent little cameo from Morgan-Smith, still a lack of composure and quality though, Clarke-Harris might as well be sat in the stand. disjointed
The ref was clueless, if he thinks Conor Brown fouls their man in the second half it is a penalty, it was at least a yard inside the box, but what Brown was supposed to do when their man runs into the back of him, I'm not sure. We played some decent football late on in the 1st half and the 2nd half, JCH should have buried the chance after some slick passing. Didn't think too much of their no. 5 , and the keeper looked a bit on the dodgy side, speaking of which if Rabchuka sets his wall correct he doesn't have to make a decent save. Chaddy_Ender
Think if we had Smith and Wes in the middle we would of walked that game Kelly didnt hit a blue shirt in the first half slightly better in the second, how many wasted dead balls did we produce in the first hour ? Admired the battling qualities and Winchester and Forte where our two best players by far, still not sure on elokobi/wilson its just not happening at the moment. ShireBlue
Had a terrible first 30 minutes or so but picked it up after that. Elokobi, Wilson, Forte decent. Danny Philliskirk looks a lot happier in his natural position. Morgan-Smith looked good. Referee terrible. Can't comment on the stewards in the paddock because were all good boys and girls. rosa
While the song was aimed at the stewards I don't blame Johnson for being pissed off with it. Especially when it was followed up with "this club is a :censored:ing joke". Yeah that's the spirit lads. Almost the opposite of Saturday - dreadful first half (albeit a bit more promising last 10 minutes), decent second half. Worrying lack of communication in defence, bit clueless/toothless up front. Forte and Winchester looked promising, again. Atari Palmer-Tomkinson looked very lively when he came on. Oh and about 10 seconds before the goal I said "it's just not happening up front, is it?" You're all welcome.

leeslover
Philliskirk played well in an advanced role? Next thing I will advise playing Eardley in midfield, suggest that Winchester is actually our best player and not our worst and tell you all how Beckett was actually :censored:e. pukka
Plenty of effort. The way we fought back from how bad we were in the first 25 was pleasing. It wasn't a surprise the goal came from a set piece, I couldn't see us opening them up Long hard season ahead, but the effort and fight is there. GlossopLatic
Once we got the ball down and started to pass it, we looked much better either side of half time. Port vale had a big physical side, no point in going long against them and once we worked out that we were better off passing it round them, we started to play and worked our way back into the game. Disappointed we didn't build on it when we equalised and didn't push on for the win as Vale came back into it from there. But much better than Saturday. Qudos to Danny philiskirk having him back made a difference and helped Clarke Harris. I also thought Jones was excellent too, a good couple of delivereys from set pieces one of which resulted in a goal and does the box to box stuff well too. Still worried about the back 4, they still aren't quite playing as a unit just yet and on Saturday they will be facing the best striker in the league so still work to do. Still a work in progress but a few positives to come out of tonight. Edited August 19, 2014 by GlossopLatic

You're all welcome. The middle paragraph sums up my feelings about the game. Although Jones was my MOTM. Idea for Playershare fundraiser. Athleticos song Bingo. Chose a minute and the first time the Athleticos sing a song about the stewards (most of them are just doing their job) and whoever has that minute wins. Obviously Athelticos can fix this but I'm not sure they have the brain poŵer or the age (as presumably Playershare limit their donations to over 18s, but may not) to do so. Pot split between Playershare and winner in their usual manner (50/50?)
Handsy
Quite an enjoyable game like someone said brown was at least a yard inside the box but the ref did us a massive favour and gave a free kick instead of a penalty . But in the bottom four and can't see us getting anything at preston
slystallone
Better that was. Still more than a lot pish, but better than it was on Saturday. First 35 / 40mins of the 1st half, we were pretty gash. Mills and Kelly and JCH were the stand out's; but for the wrong reasons. Last 5 mins of the 1st half we suddenly improved, and JCH really should have done so much bettter with his chance. The one time you actually want him to put his laces through it, he tippy taps it and its cleared. Argh!!! Even though they hit the bar, we were the better side 2nd half. Its not great, and - being brutally honest - the tactics are still all over the show. We're not playing with wingers. We're too narrow as a result. We have our middle 2 midfielders too deep. But, what was better tonight was the 2 upfront. We looked all the better for having 2 up there; JCH - whilst still giving a generally pap performance; did look happier having someone alongside him. And Philliskirk looked sooooo much better playing in his preffered position. That was his best game for like, what, 9 months? Positives? A few i'd say. Again, Carl Winchester played well, so too Forte. Our best players so far those 2. Mike Jones looks promising; think he'll continue to get better as the games come. Morgan-Smith looked lively; cracking roll & turn by the centre circle; and looks direct & pacey. Negatives? The formation; whilst bettter for losing the deep lying sweeper midfielder, is still too conserative and way too compact & narrow. Mills looks a shadow of the player we had on loan; he's not too far off being dropped. Kelly really doesn't look much cop at all; and I'm struggling to see his leadership skills; i havent heard him say anything. I really hope its a lack of games from last season - cobwebs if you will - and that he'll suddenly pick up as his fitness improves: fingers crosses. And JCH: well, that 4 competitive games in and he's been pap. In pre season he was pretty pap; but was scoring nontheless. Without the goals now, he's reslly looking poor. It would help if he stayed on his feet a bit more, and had more awareness of whats happening around him. Lots still to work on. Lots. But, that was a bit better. Oh, and 1st truly :censored:e ref of the season tonight.
BP1960
Nice to see two up from front, not much creativity from Kelly or Jones (although he played well) from open play though. Mills better 2nd half, he needs to be encouraged to run with the ball more, as in the second half. The effort was there, but I wonder if now fans would prefer JCH or sign a goal poacher ?
