Dieng or new signing? http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news-features/10/oldham-athletic-news/88183/latics-facing-anxious-wait-over-elokobi That's a bit of a bugger. Lockwood is back in training I believe, although whether he's ready or not is another thing. Kasunga looked class against Scunthorpe and assume he'll be straight in for Peterborough. Dieng definitely deserves a chance over a new signing for the Walsall game.
deyres42
Diang a waste of a wage if he can't step in when needed.

blueatheart
Always seems to be our influential players who cop the worst injuries. Yes, but I groaned when Elokobi pulled up and was then pleasantly surprised when Kusunga came on. Strength in depth.

disjointed
Dieng would be good cover for Kusunga, also I think Brian Wilson has played at CB, if so Brown could cover for him at RB. Not panicking just yet.
the_mighty_bosh
If Kusunga played well against Scunny then he deserves to start against Posh. After that I'd be happiest with Lockwood coming in as he seems to have a similar influence to Elokobi but if fitness is an issue then Dieng seems like he would be up to the task. Blimey when was the last time that we had 5 dependable centre backs in our squad??

I gather he looked good in preseason but from the little I've seen despite clearly being a very cultured footballer he hasn't quite adapted to the pace of the English game yet. OAFCM35
Yes it's not a great situation to be dealing with but we've got players who can play in different positions and players who can step in, great squad depth this year.. I'd opt for B.Wilson in at CB and C.Brown in RB personally

He won't do unless he plays LL.
Lee Sinnott
Dieng strikes me as the type of player who would :censored: himself defending a long punt upfield. I've no evidence to base that on, though...

Fruitygoo
Kusunga is missing for one game.....we should be able to patch up the team well enough for that without dipping into the loan market. if we do, it's a waste of a loan as we either end up with someone sat on the bench for the rest of the month or one of our own players kept out the side by a temp signing... opinions4u
Dieng looked excellent there pre-season. Albeit briefly. Time for him to step up if needed.
grahamb
Dieng played against Huddersfield pre season and looked calm and cultured throughout .also played in a back three v boro in the cup but the plan had to change after we went two down . he also thinks that's his best position but the coaches feel he is good enough for midfield . I understand most people have not seen much of him but I believe we have a real talent there . no need for loan player .

However, Dieng looked very good indeed playing CB Vs Huddersfield. Dealt with plenty of high balls, and tackled well, but - in a similar way to the experiements with Jason Jarrett and David Mellor, he's essentially a very cultured and comfortable on the ball midfielder, playing CB. That adds a new dynamic to the side, as Lockwood and Elokobi aren't exactly the best i've ever seen with the ball at their feet for example. But - Vs 'Boro; Dieng wanted too much time on the ball and looked well off the pace whenever they broke with pace at us. For 1 game, whilst Kusunga is away, i'd have no issues at all with Dieng going in there. Its a waste of a wage if he doesnt. Both his, and the loanee that would be brought in if he didnt make the side. Kusunga slots in after Walsall again, and we wait for G3 to regain fitness and in he goes again. Simples... The General will be fit before Elokobi. It is up to Kusunga/ Dieng to play well enough with their opportunities to stop him going straight back in. sjk2008
Kusunga in for Peterborough is obvious. Providing Lockwood is still not match fit, then Dieng is a must for the Walsall game at BP. If LJ doesn't fancy that, then IMO there's no point in having him on the wage bill. If we can't trust a player who's looked tidy at CB at times for 1 game whilst our preferred choices are unavailable for one game, then get rid. We've got enough CM too now so I don't want to hear "LJ might see him as midfield backup". Pointless looking into the market for 90mins
