dec666
The guy is PR disaster. I'm sure the stay aways will be flocking back after the 'fans representative' has a dig in the local paper. Why not actually do something about it, special offers, family deals etc...
Latics_Fanatic
The guy is PR disaster. I'm sure the stay aways will be flocking back after the 'fans representative' has a dig in the local paper. Why not actually do something about it, special offers, family deals etc... I'm not disagreeing with the principle, but it hasn't worked in the past - that might be where the club's angle is on this. The pre-Christmas games should give scope for something like this to happen, especially if we're still in and around the top 6.

AnthonyOAFC
When it comes to offers, it seems to backfire ahaha! I remember the Carlisle game when it was £2 entry when Taggart punched one of their players.
opinions4u
<Head in hands> If you want somebody to change their Saturday routine and come back you need to encourage them. Winning games is a good starting point. Ticket offers (and they could market the Orient pricing as exactly that). Extending the combination above over a few more weeks. A bollocking of the natives? My guess is that won't work.

LaticsLegend
I thought this guy was supposed to be the fan's representative on the board? It stinks to me as an attempt to rub Corney up the right way and is trying to be the messenger for the Chairman's gripes. It's compounded by the fact he ignores the very people he's addressing in this statement all year round, then slags them off. As someone said, he's a PR disaster, I cant work out whether he just comes across the wrong way or he's completely clueless. He's going to get a lashing from the fans about this one, rightly or wrongly. I just feel he could have worded things differenly if he wants to get fans on side with the club. NewBlue
Regardless of what Blatter says, how many people identify themselves as Oldham fans and of that how many are actually able to get to games regularly? We couldn't even sell out Everton after a brilliant cup run with a 3 sided stadium that the away side had round about 1/3 of. Does the longed, apathetic stayaway support even still exist? c.hill12
In fairness he has taken a request to the board meeting for cheaper tickets at an upcoming game and was very supportive of the idea..
opinions4u
I wonder if parking arrangements around BP are impacting crowds a little? I've just picked up my Sheffield Utd tickets and couldn't park anywhere near the ticket office. Nearest legal parking place was towards the top of Sheepfoot Lane. Oh well, at least my monthly exercise routine is done.
beag_teeets
Jesus wept, I thought this might have been the usual have a pop at Barry but :censored: me, that is appalling. Didn't anyone try and stop him? Anyone from the marketing/PR department could have said "I'll have a read through if you like, check for typos before it is published. He really only does take his foot out of his mouth so he has time to cut his nose of to spite his face then put his foot back in.
jimsleftfoot
All he needed to do was write an open letter remaing positive without having a go. He failed massively. This is just an emotional response by someone who doesn't get the mindset of the people he is trying to attract back to Latics. It's pathetic and the fact that he's got previous just compounds the problem. Perhaps he should get some of his commercial staff to proof read this or I would happily do it for him. opinions4u
I would happily do it for him So would I. In fact I'd happily write it for him! I get his frustration with the lapsed and uninterested. But this won't make them change their ways. Quite the opposite.

Ackey
In fairness he has taken a request to the board meeting for cheaper tickets at an upcoming game and was very supportive of the idea.. I'm looking to construct a more comprehensive response to Barry's comments which I will pass on to Mr Corney and Mr Joy in due course. I am refusing to address it here as it's only going to lead to anger on my part. That said I will say one thing now; that has to be one of the most self defeating and diabolically misguided things I've ever seen in print. Be it malice or a lack of understanding that lead to it I can't speculate. But that did more harm than good, of that I am certain.
Ackey
Actually, i sympathise with his frustration. Not one person doesn't. An advertisement (which is what that is, and a free one at that!) is not the place to express it.

c.hill12
I agree, it certainly could of been worded better with a more positive spin. Not sure Barry saying what he has said is going to stop people coming and if it does i'd be very shocked. 'I was going to go to latics saturday but not going to bother now because Barry Owen told me to' Read the 'crowd' thread. He's only saying what the fans are thinking. As a trust, we have taken a proposal to the club board that was brought to us by a group of fans. It is now up to the club if they wish to take this on board. Simoncorneyisgod
The guy makes my blood boil what an absolute disaster, to say he is the Fans Rep on the board is an absolute disgrace in my opinion! It amazes me to think we have the same 'Fans Rep' as we he had when Sean Jarvis saved the club all those years ago......not healthy or productive as is shown by this PR disaster It's easy for him to write this tucking into his HT sandwiches and seat in the Directors 'Box'
