Simpo
They have quite a drastic ban on betting in football now. Nobody involved with football in the top 8 (I think top 8) tiers of English football can do ANY football betting. So Gordon Lawton isn't allowed to bet on Liverpool finishing in the Top 4. Wayne Rooney isn't allowed to put a quid on Stockport winning on Saturday.

The ruling is harsh but its only that because certain "professionals" took the piss
HarryBosch
Never mind pissing about with the offside rule and such like to "improve the game" - deduct a percentage from every footballers wage to be used to back his own team to win each match and he gets the winnings.... Lee Sinnott
He's not been linked with us. He's not even been mentioned in the same sentence as us, but I liked the look of Liam Walsh tonight for Everton U21's. He reminded me a bit of Nicky Henry. I only saw the first half, and they were getting rolled, but he stood out for me...
SavageTheBeast
Demetriou close to being complete stumbling on how much % of wage we are willing to pay.
Monty Burns
I have a friend who plays in the conference, he is not allowed to join our £10 premier league football mini league. Way too draconian.
deyres42
Not linked with us but perhaps he should have been, Izale McLeod to Notts County.

yarddog73
Not linked with us but perhaps he should have been, Izale McLeod to Notts County. Reported as a six figure sum involved so that would count us out.
deyres42
Reported as a six figure sum involved so that would count us out. If Notts County can get the funds together to buy him then we should be able to do so too, an obvious improvement to the team.
yarddog73
Ryan Mclaughlin linked with us on a season long loan, 20 year old right back from Liverpool.

Gaz_Oafc
http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?231339-ryan-mclaughin Suggests he's decent but has fitness/injury issues, although that was January 2014.

deyres42
Is there anything approaching logic or common sense in that post at all? He is better than our current striking options, the fee was reported to be around 150k so not a fortune. I think it would be better to pay one good player 5k a week than three ordinary players 5k between them. That logical enough for ya?
oldhamoafc
A right back? Really? Brown/Wilson/dieng... Surely we need a striker and centre half as a priority?
OAFCM35
A right back? Really? Brown/Wilson/dieng... Surely we need a striker and centre half as a priority? Maybe he's bringing him in and selling B.Wilson, loaning out Brown, and keeping Deing as cover for RB,CB and CDM
BP1960
A right back? Really? Brown/Wilson/dieng... Surely we need a striker and centre half as a priority? Golden rule; if he's better than what you have got and affordable, snap him up.
oldhamoafc
Golden rule; if he's better than what you have got and affordable, snap him up. But he's not affordable cause we can't sign a striker before we sell someone...

None of that is to the point; the point is that you assume that the club should have £150k hanging around, plus £250k per year for three years, just because Notts County have just allegedly paid that out. Whilst I don't disagree with your point about one good player being more valuable than more lesser players, the fact is that we are more than likely (I think the recent radio phone-in confirms this) going to have to offload players before we can get anyone else in. But to blithely say 'If they can do it, so can we' is just naive to the extreme.

Stevie_J
But he's not affordable cause we can't sign a striker before we sell someone... How do you know he's not affordable? He could be free. Surely Prem clubs like Liverpool are not really that arsed about us covering the wages of their youngsters?
